Hello people,

I'm new to this forum and would like to say a few words here as introduction. I'm Johan, 37 years of age, I live in Belgium and I paint figures (what else? ). I've been doing this on and off for quite a few years now. I never went to any clubs, but did go to shows, until 1996 I went to Euromilitaire each year, but not anymore since then... to be honest, it was maybe the coming of the Acrylic paints that put me off a little bit then - go figure, I had always thought oil painting was the way, and then suddenly these guys with their acrylics did wonderful things I could only dream of!
Anyway, I'm still painting, although I'm certainly not the greatest painter. But I have fun and that is what counts.

My favourite subjects: the battle of Waterloo 1815, the Franco Prussian war 1870, and everything that has to do with the history of that fascinating continent, America! I currently am working on something Franco Prussian, but have something American in mind for the next couple of figures : two figures of the battle of New Orleans 1815, one a highlander of the 93rd Sutherland, the other a "cottonbaler" of the 7th US infantry... so, people, EVERY little bit of information you can give me here is welcome !!! (especially for the uniform of the 7th US inf.)

Cheers,

Johan

Welcome Johan to the "Planet",
I hope some of our members can be of help with your reference needs and hopefully over the next few days some reference links will appear for you. I still use oils as well as enamels ( Humbrol and Floquil ) and have done the acrylic route and found myself much preferring the working time of the oils and slow drying floquil. Feel free to post your work as you progress and "Keep on Painting"

Welcome aboard Johan! :)

I'm sure you will find this forum as helpful and informative as I have. The folks here really know their stuff and are willing to share. Sorry I don't have any specific references for you and I'm sure you've already done the internet search thing. If I come accross any good links I'll let you know.

Again, welcome to the planet and do post some pics!

Hi Johan,

Welcome aborad.

Where in Belgium do you live? I live in Belsele near Sint-Niklaas. I'm giving acryl painting demo's at various clubs all through the land. If it intrests you, I can give you dates for demo's near where you live. Not that I'm any good at acrylics painting, but it seems some people are even worse. Hard to imagine though.

Greetings and I hope to see you soon,

Gino

Thank you all for your warm welcome - guess I'll have to buy a good camera to take some pictures to post here... I'll do my best.

I see there's a few people around that I already know, good! :)

Gino, Belsele is that in Europe? Just joking, I know where it is, I guess you have the "figure royale" shop there? I'll come over to say hello one of these next weeks. I though I indicated Aalst as location, never heard of that city ???
