Hi to all ,
first time i've posted anything on here
back to the modelling scene after 7 yr break , but got an attic full of kits and a wife who thinks boys and there toys lol
i've been surfing the site for some months now and have saved some really helpful tips and hints on a wide range of topics , still water , types of paints , acrylics vs oils , shading and highlighting , so a huge thanks to all.
for me , getting the overall impression is more important because i build only 1/35 , i have recently acquired some 120mm and 200mm figures and the HUE usmc bust courtesy of mr Kirtles , and if i ever get the nerve up to put paint on a £30 bust i'll let ya know
i am ostensibly what i would call a diorama builder using different materials , as oppossed to a pure figure painter , i like to incorporate figures into a scene using an assortment of things , even dare i say it on here action man accessories M-16'S , m-79's etc + militaria accessories
and as you can see from my name my genre is the 'NAM' conflict.
I have been really impressed with the diversity of figures subjects and scales and THE QUALITY is humbling when i look at my efforts , lol , but it's a hobby i enjoy the artiste and aspire to it but if i don't get there hey i had fun givin it a go
so hope to put some pics on if i can get my picture skills up to scratch and look forward to chatting with fellow enthusiasts /
so many thanks

Hi Gary,

Lot's of Nam fans here, from all over the world.

As Mark rightly points out, most of us started out with AFV or some other types of models and "graduated" to figures over a period of time.

Thanks for introducing yourself and welcome.

Hi

Thanks for the welcome really appreciated ,
hope to pick some brains and acquire some new skills ,
could someone advise on how to strip resin models back to bare for a re-paint project , i found a nice nam figure in a car boot at woodvale UK , gotta do a little re-modelling because arm holding an m79 blooper was broken and lost , so could anyone advise what's best to resculpt these , i'm used to milliput but would this do or be a bit chalky and brittle , any advice would be greatly appreciated.

For stripping paint from resin or white metal figures I use PineSol. I believe it is the pine oil that is the active agent during the stripping process. Just soak it for a day or two and gently scrub in the kitchen sink with an old toothbrush and rinse off with water. Don't soak thin parts for too long as they might soften and warp. (I know from experience).
I have heard others using automotive brake fluid and even Easyoff. If using the latter, make sure you use gloves and use it in a well vented room as it is very caustic.

Gary ;)

Gary D

thx for the advice , have heard that the automotive brake fluid might do , jus wasn't 100% sure if that would soften or misshape the resin , i know, i had to fill my bikes brakes once and spilt some on my tank and it made a mess of a nice paint job a friend had airbrushed on for me , is pinesol a N.American product or is it available UK . I'll do a UK google search , thx and happy painting .

Hi again Gaz.
Pine Sol is sold here in N. America as a household cleaner (like Mr. Clean etc.) that you can purchase at any grocery store. I would be very surprised to find you don't have something simular in the U.K. from a store like Tesco's or somewhere.
I believe it is milder than brake fluid.

Good Luck!

Many thx , think we've sorted a product available UK , gonna get some tomorrow, so hope to get a few figures stripped and maybe put in some practice using the new ideas , will keep everyone posted as to progress.

this taking pics of your figures so that everyone can see them clearly is proving a bit on the challenging side , downloaded to my comp they come out as this fuzzy mess , mind u !! that could be my paint job , will look into and hope to post as soon as i can .

take care all and thx for the help , makes ya feel like your not alone sat at ya workbench

Hello Gary and welcome. . .

Hi Gary:

And welcome as a new member to Planet figure. I am relatively new to this
site myself. I am sure you will like it here. A very friendly group. And with
some outstanding sculptors and figure painters.

Welcome aboard, mate,

rick

Hi

Thx Rick , glad to be here ,
well roger bud i got the mr muscle and the mrs gave me a funny look , so i'm in the kitchen with door open to vent area put the figures in the bag sprayed them and put it to one side when in walks my better half and she said seeing as how i had to wait at least 30 mins for the stuff to work on the figures why didn't i use it on the oven as it only takes 10 mins to work on ovens so i had 20 mins spare .
