Help please, I've been slowly taking my time painting this great Air Cav bust and noticed some sheen in areas as a result of handling without gloves on (oops), so decided to use Tamiya X21 flat base to get rid of it (never used it before). Mixed it as instructed painted a thin coat on and saw the sheen vanish, then to my HORROR it began turning white.
As a result of me panicking I applied another coat to remove it which as you can see made matters even worse. Any help or solutions would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks Lew J. DSCF1309.JPGDSCF1310.JPGDSCF1311.JPGDSCF1314.JPG

You'll really struggle to get rid of it, best strip and start again.:( A lot of people think that it works as a matt varnish, as you've found out it doesn't. Mix the tiniest amount in to your water on the palette, just enough to taint it. Then use that in your paint. Until you get to know how much to add, try it on a piece of scrap. Still shiny, touch more. Too much and you'll get the chalky residue.
One of those learning experiences I'm afraid,
Carl.

Cheers for the quick response Carl, I'm gutted looks like it's back to the drawing board still at least I've found a convincing looking whitewash for AFVs in winter LOL.

Few, all sorted just need to weather and highlight again now. I got rid of most of it with thin washes of water mixed with Revell aqua color, then went ahead with fingers crossed and repainted...result!

Wow. This is one that thankfully has never happened to me. Looks very painful, like those old VD movies they used to show us in the Army. Glad you managed to sidestep that one Bro. Big kudos to Housecarl the figure doctor!!

Had it before on one of mine, managed to warm it then add another coat over the top, think it blooms if cold, mine came back ok.

Lew,i brought some of that stuff once many years ago and luckily for me i tried it out on an old model and i did'nt do anything for me  ,stay away from the stuff would be my advice to you.

Brian

Thanks again for the continued advice guys, I have a few new techniques to try out when painting now. This is what makes this such a great site, that people are willing to share and help others regardless of levels of ability.
