Hi All,
Does anyone have the regimental history of the Connaught Ranger's, I am looking for tunic details appertaining to the Zulu war, I have two conflicting sources and I would like to know in 1879 what facing colours were for the tunic cuffs and collar. I have one source showing yellow and one source showing green! Or did the facing colour change in the 1881 reforms when they were merged with the 94th.
Thank you in anticipation of a reply.
cheers
Richie

Hi Richie

I am 99.999999 % that in 1879 the facings were a pale yellow. It was not until the 1881 reforms when all Irish Regiments took up Green facings (Except Royal Regts who had Blue)
Ive just packed up my books and taken them to my daughters, but can get down to them in a day or two if you dont get any further help.

Hi Mick,
Thank you for the reply mate, I was sort of in your camp and when I done some further research on the net I found similar conflicting information again to do with 88th. Even some of the earlier illustrations prior to my year are conflicting also.
I tried to buy an original history of the regiment published in the 1880's along with a few other regiments but they went out of my price range. I'm sure they would have had the details.
Thank you for your help and I do not mind waiting, it is something to do with regiments I am compiling.
cheers

Richie,
I was having a mooch about on the web the other day and I came across the Connaught Rangers Association and Regimental history. Have a look for that, I will also see if I can find it again.

Hi Richie.
Just found this, its a painted photograph dated 1880

I'll throw my two cents worth of sweet F all and say pale yellow. That was the facing colour during the napoleonic period so I'd go with that up until the reforms and consolidations.

So there

Colin

Defo yellow, Richie! The 1881 Cardwell Reforms stated that all English Regts adopted white facings, Irish Regts green, Royal Regts blue, with one or two exceptions, which I cant recall at the moment!(y)

In the movie Zulu,
Without doubt the finest application of celluloid, acting and sunshine ever in the history of the world ever

Michael Caine actually wears an 1881 connaughts tunic throughout !

Not a lot of people know that.
