Hello
I have got the first two figures of my second figure for my "Kaiser´s Army 1914/18". It is a wounded French soldier.

I have started to paint the first one and have a question. The French army is not my "favourite" theme, so can I paint his cap in red like on this photo

French_soldier_early_uniform_WWI.JPG
or must I paint it blue, as on the photos in books that I have

BTW. I hope I can publish the figure end of next month

Hi Ulrich!
The red kepi of the French soldier was regularly worn with a blue clothcover (introduced 1913) at the outbreak of WWI. That was the cheap way "concealment" was acchieved for the French troops. Your figure does not seem to wear a cloth cover on his kepi what is ok - he is a prisoner of war and does not need it any longer. So his kepi could be red. - After the disastrous experiences with red trousers and uniforms of the war of 1870 in 1914 a blue-gray kepi was introduced and supplied to the Poilus. - IMHO a red or blue-grey kepi depends if you want to show your soldier in the early stage of WWI or later but his red trousers indicate the early stages of WW I.
Cheers, Martin
