Does anyone know this artist

Hi Mick
That's all I have, got it off Pintrest. I have been searching high and low even on the Forum on Artist and illustrators.
All I can see is an S poss L and the W, I have searched Stanley Wood but drawn a blank.

He did loads of action pictures, in black and white book illustrations, and in colour. Bob's picture shows Captain Fawcett, though mortally wounded, still directing his troops at Albuera, 1811. His depiction of the Belgic shako is,of course, incorrect , but artists of the time were not so aware of uniform differences in ours or any other army !
His paintings and drawings of the Wild West have a lot of authenticity about them, somewhat similar in style to Frederic Remington.

I have had a further search and found he did the Illustrations for the "Boys own" books in the 20s. a lot of his work was with horses and the Wild west.
Thanks Taff

Stanley Wood's stuff was often not precisely accurate... but it was always wonderfully evocative and exciting. A couple
of recent posts here have featured stunning 3D renditions of some high brow classical paintings - perhaps we could
persuade the modellers responsible to turn their attention towards the comparatively low brow art of Mr Wood.

I hope so too, Nudge, nudge, wink, wink, Elan13.

When it comes to Napoleonics, one of my favourite artists is Edouard Detaille... can you imagine this one rendered in 3D ?View attachment 338144

Fogie, I can imagine any number of Detaille's work being 3D Vignettes, one in particular. The field gun being pushed up a slope by Revolutionary artillerymen, from the triptych, "Le Chant du Depart " I tried to commission it in 75mm, and caught a huge and expensive cold !:sour:

Fogie, The whole lot in that picture would be astounding, certainly, but no, just the gun team. The chap with the huge moustache and headband under his chapeau always captured my imagination (hence my cultured whiskers ! See avatar left) . He bears a distinct likeness to the late great Sid Horton of Chota Sahib miniatures. When I showed the picture to him, we had a good laugh, I determined the whereabouts of the actual canvases by contacting the art curator lady in the Musee d'Larmee , Les Invalides, Paris, and asked why it wasn't on show anywhere. They told me in a very nice e-mail that it was carefully preserved in storage, since WWII, to keep it away from the "Occupying Forces". It would be great to see the original sometime, but I suspect it won't be anytime in the near future, if at all.
It remains a dream:angelic:

I too am a proponent of whiskers (can you guess?) and am suddenly assailed by some fond memories of Sid Horton. A skilled sculptor
and surely one of life's 'good blokes'.
