Hi All,
Ok, after searching out the threads, studying some of the anatomy and sculpting threads, about to start my first sculpture of a figure (not counting sitting duck)

Subject of sculpt is the Japanese lady on the right, in the black & purple Kimono (Yukata for the accurate types out there)

She's 150 cm tall, bare feet, and I am happy with the idea of a 1/10 scale, as this is 15 cm tall. ("bout 6 inches). Like the few other Oriental women I know, she has a slender build, bust & hips to match. (Unlike the anime ladies who are all ****s and legs:D;))
She is almost elfin build, actually....
Using proportions guides found here (or sourced here), giving her an average build, would mean 7 1/2 head units in height.

Means my head units are 2cm in span. Am I heading in the right direction with these calculations?

Using GaryJDs thread on sculpting 101 as a prime guide, as well as cross references picked up from here.

Do have more reference photos, but too high res and will clog bandwidth here.

Thanks for any feedback

Cheers

Hi Jamie,

Very interesting subject for your 1st sculpt, have you decided on the pose yet .
Your calculations seem to be correct and I'm looking forward to following your progress.

Cheers Ken

HI Ken,
thanks for the overview.

Built the skeletons, have added some sculpey to the frames.

Looking at them, I feel as though the legs are too long, particularly between knee & ankle,, and perhaps also between thigh and hip. Going to sleep on it, get some perspective.

Left the arms off for now, and so far is just a bare frame, essentially.....

Pose; She'll be depicted as walking her pet dog, a miniature Dachshund. Lead in one hand, a fan in the other, along a path bordered by grass & flowers.....

Hair will be worn up, in one of those ways that is almost incomprehensible to me....but then, all I have to do is sculpt the figure to match photos.

Thanks for looking,

cheers
