Help with the use of tempera

I´ll appreciate if someone can explain to me exactly what is the use of tempera in painting figures, I don´t know the use of this technique.

Mate, I don't reckon anyone else does either, hence the avalanche of replies. Sorry. Maybe somebody might prove me wrong...

Is tempera used on model figures? The old masters used egg tempera to paint with but it fell out of favour with the introduction of oil paint.

You can still get a modern premix tempra from Blick, but to be honest will it perform any better than modern oil paints on model figures
