Two books that have good info are:

"Into the Valley of Death" by John and Boris Mollo - A great uniform reference and a good general account of Balaclava.


"Hell Riders" by Terry Brighton - This is a very detailed history of the charge of the light brigade. It has a lot of background on the main players including Cardigan of course. I liked reading this one quite a bit.
