Hello,

after reading and visiting pF for a couple of months I decided to join this very interesting forum. I am almost 46, German but living in NL for the last 24 years and re-started scale modelling 4 years ago, mainly AFV and Diorama. About 4 month ago I "discovered" figure painting , then on a 1/35 scale , after that I tried a 1/16 figure. But I also discovered some frustration over the hobby. So I decided to stop for a while ( 2month) and think about what I really would like to do . The biggest problem was size of the project vs. available time. I think some will recognize this, in your head you are already half thinking about the next project, while you are still busy we the current. And with Diorama's with AFV , Figures and landscape, it could take a while. In addition the building phase was not the part that really fascinated me, more the painting, weathering etc part. So after reading and thinking for the last months I decided to do Figures and Busts for a while. Also to learn more about color effects, interaction between shadows, highlights etc. I think when I figured out how to paint a reasonable figure, it will also help me with other kits.

The first bust I have ordered is from Young, mainly because I like the Face expression of young busts, the bust is: SS Panzer Crew WWII (YM1806).
I wanted to start also with a figure with minimum gear on it, and w/o a helmet.
I also wanted one w/o a camo, but I was to fascinated by the head of this bust:)

So I will post as soon as I started ( 2 weeks I estimate) , and I hope to learn a lot here ;)

I must say that pF showed me the variety of figure modelling - beyond WWII ;)

Welcome Helge
You've come to the right place, you seem to have a plan, more than most of us ever have.
You should go back through the archives and previous posts of those painters you admire. This way you'll find lots of techniques, paint mixes, sdvice and a bit of alchemy thrown in.
Don't be embarassed Ask a question, there is always somebody willing and enthusiastic to help.
Regards
Derek

Thanks also to everyone else!!

Hello, Thanks for the replies.

If I would like to start a thread regarding a figure I am building/painting, where should I start this thread. It seems that as well in this area of the forum as in the painting/vbench (vBench is for the more experienced painter/builder it seems) ?

I normally show also small steps and not end pictures, as I will have a lot of questions:)

Thanks
Helge
