Highland cap dicing help needed...

Good evening from Cumbria.
I hope all's well in your worlds and you're enjoying the last night of the circus!
Onto better things!
I'm just about done with two highlander busts and I need some help with how to paint the dicing on the feather bonnets.
The attached pic is of the bust I have on the go. The other pics are of the dicing I want to try to recreate.
I'm the first one to admit I'm shyte at painting patterns so I tend to stay away from them. I'm looking for a straight forward process and am not entirely focused on the results looking amazing... to be frank I just want these busts done so I never have to worry about "tartan" work ever again
So! Any help for the Tartan Challenged would be greatly appreciated.

I'd mark out in pencil the pattern first and then paint within the lines.
Don't look at it as difficult, look at it as time-consuming.
Let yourself off the hook. Tell yourself at the outset that yes, you're going to make mistakes. Be on the lookout for them and tackle them when you see them.
Do it in drafts, ie, first draft, then come back to it, correcting any errors, then repeat the process until you're happy.
The very best painters make mistakes. They're just good at spotting and correcting them.

That's cracking advice pal and it makes sense indeed. Hadn't considered the option of not having to
paint it freehand.
I'll give it a go.

I write with some hesitation as I do not know the bust-what regiment it represents and the scale, plus what period we are in? You may however have a degree of luck. Quite often the feathering of the bonnet covered the dicing to on a below the centre band. The centre band being exposed, in some case near the badge.

Not sure of any of the details mentioned. Picked this bust up off Ebay years ago so no idea what it is except that it's a good sculpt.
