You're absolutely right Steve the figures are terrific. The bastion style (pointy)
tunic lacing, crossbelt plate, and 'tufty' epaulettes tell us that these are centre
company 42nd (Black Watch) Highlanders. As such they wore 'Government-Sett'
Tartan Kilts plus the usual red tunics, so forth. The fight at Waterloo immediately
suggests itself, or perhaps that rather nasty business of a couple of days before at
Quatre Bras, where the Black Watch - unable to form their defensive square in
time - suffered heavy casualties at the hands of Compte De Pire's lancers, including
the death of their Colonel. Whatever...there's an absolute plethora of reference material
online to help with the details including the classic painting by William Barnes Wollen
of the Quatre Bras affair
