I bought one of the Russian castings (unpainted) and as it didn't have a color guide, or even a box for that matter, I'm having a hard time ID'ing the unit.
I think he's from the Napoleonic period because he has a flintlock instead of a percussion rifle although the uniform looks similar to time of Crimea or even the Mutiny. He is wearing a Balmoral cap (at least I think that's what it's called) and a kilt. His jacket button lace has pointed ends and is NOT in pairs. The pointed ends of the lace looks like it just has 1 point at the end , not the flared 3 pointed ends. He has a oval plate where the belts cross and he has "wings" at his shoulders.
And oh yes, he's a pioneer/sapper.
Anyone have any ideas what regiment this guy represents or can anyone point me to a good website?

Hi RWD, the best clue is the sporran, number, type and configuration of tassels. Unfortunately not all Regiments wore the sporran in the field. The oval crossbelt plate was worn by most units in the Napoleonic era and the uniforms changed very little in the years up to the Crimean war. The Osprey book Wellingtons Highlanders has loads of information and there is a picture of a Pioneer of the 93rd Highlanders There. If you would like a scan of this just ask .
All the best ,
Scotty.

Thanks, Scotty, for the info. Unfortunately he's wearing an apron at the kilt front and no sporran. I'll check out the Osprey book and thanks for the scan offer.
