The mailman was good to me today in some respects, I recieved Issue 41 of Historical Miniature Magazine. As all else I planned for the afternoon went by the wayside, I sat down at my desk and briefly thumbed through this issue. Page 44 stopped me dead in my tracks as it was an article by our member Stephen Malia. A 3 page , 11 picture article on the painting of his sculpted Drum Major Flanqueur Grenadiers 1813. I sat and read the whole article followed with sbs pictures of Stephen's painting of the whole figure. My hat is off to you Stephen............Beautiful article

I never found an issue of that mag overhere, but have seen some publicity for it... is that what you guys in the USA have as your "standard" figure magazine? I have the French "Figurines", how does Historical Min. Mag. compare to Figurines?

Thanks for the heads up Guy. As always I look forward to Historical Miniatures arriving. To know that there is a great article in there by Stephen. The wait for it to arrive in the UK will seem to be even longer this time.

Hello Johan,
As regards to Historical Miniature Magazine comparing to other magazines, I would hesitate to really compare them as they each kinda go into different aspects of miniatures. I recieve 3 magazines and each has their own personality. HM has more "How to" articles it seems while Fifurines has more of the new releases that manufactures are coming out with. The third I recieve is Figurine International, which again has its own style and will cover aspects of figures and miniatures that the others don't. I enjoy all 3 and have been tinking about adding a fourth.

Aha. That's what I wanted to know, so there's less annoying (well to me personally that is...) ads and more "how to" articles... interesting.

... adding a fourth? Now I don't get you there, do you mean subscribing to a fourth, or editing a mag yourself?

Subscribing only Johan............you would think retirement world give me lots and lots of painting time..............NOT.............busy as ever and value the time with a brush.

Thanks Guy for your comments regarding the article. In fact if all goes well I should be writing another one for HM regarding my other Drum Major I sculpted a while ago. This article will cover the sculpting side of the piece with lots of pics dealing with a SBS. Just to remind you and other members I have another article on HM issue 38 dealing with a mounted trumpeter of Dragoons. Though less in progress pics the text is very interesting since it deals with my handling of variuos mediums.

Johan, I like the uniform plates "Figurines" put in. Something I think lacks in HM. My opinion only, I just get tired of translating French on limited time although I like that mag very much

Groetjes,

Gino

Pete, thats great to hear. Although I don't mind research it's nice to see uniform plates now and then without buying another book!

Gotta agree with Larry...
What would be ideal is if we could get a publisher to look at blending the goodness of HMM and Figurines into a single publication that appealed to a more "world" community of figurist...
