Here it is July 1, with no sign of the "double issue" to cover the first six months of this year ("double issue" because there was no first quarter issue). What's next? Are we going to get one issue this year and call it a "quadruple issue?" What gives? I know that sounds sarcastic, and I dont mean to sound like an a-hole, but come on - some word about what is going with this magazine from the publishers would be nice, especially for those of us who have a paid subscription. Anyone else feeling this frustration?

I'm feeling it. It's a shame that they can't put the magazine out in any kind of timely fashion. I can understand that they are having money issues but HM magazine isn't exactly filled with content so I wish they would hurry up and release the double issue already. They sent me two email, one saying it would be released in May and another saying it's still on hold. Does anyone recommend Andrea's magazine?

Hey Jason,

I was just wondering this same thing. I was going to drop Ron at HM an email
to just inquire. I am thinking of picking up another figure magazine, just not
sure which one.

I was reading HMM untill they become quarter magazine. I went to Kit Figure (german) what stopped last year. Unfortunally in the Netherlands isn't the figure hobby reserved for a handfull of enthousiast's so there will be no dutch figure magazine.
Military Modelling is great but not enough for my as figure painter.
Unfortenally i cannot read French, they have a great magazine Figurine.
Then there is Figure International what is all about acrylic and Andrea Miniatures.
And then there is a Italyan magazine but i cannot read Italian.
MY WISH is that they translate EURO FIGURES from Spanisch into Englisch. Then whe have a great magazine with awesome pictures for the whole world.
Why is nobody from Euro figuras reading this????????????/

Y'all are beating a dead horse so to speak. While there may some day be a "final" issue of HM, the mag is dead. Unfortunately there is a history of the death of figure magazines in English and they have all followed the pattern of HM. Enthusiasm and loyal followers evidently cannot offset the expense and production effort needed to keep one going. HM is, I fear, deader'n a doornail.

New Italian Magazine

Just for your information, there will shortly be a new Italian magazine in circulation, printed bilingually (Italian/English).

We have received the pilot copy - Issue 0 - which is also online on the magazine website: www.qtm-magazine.it. The website is mostly in Italian but we will be collaborating with the editors of the magazine so that this will be published bilingually. The English version should be alongside its Italian counterpart. You may download the pilot copy here (PDF file): http://www.qtm-magazine.it/doc/QTM numero 0.pdf

The actual title of the magazine is Quaderni Tecnici di Modellismo, which when literally translated means Technical Factsheets on Modelling - it definitely sounds better in Italian!

Issue 0 was only 32 pages but the magazine proper will be 48-60 pages long, focusing mainly on figure models (historical and fantasy) and the occasional mean machine if it warrants the attention! They will focus on all aspects of modelling as much as possible. The magazine will be issued bi-monthly with 2 annual special editions.

That said, they are keen to have people contributing to the magazine too, so do feel free to contact us or the editors, should you wish to post an article through.

I understand that the french magazine "Figures" has a worldwide circulation of approx 30,000-so why bother with translation into English?

PS The pictures are in English.

Look forward to the new Italian magazine and thanks to Matt and Celine for taking on the translation work

Reply From HM

I did receive a response to my email. Because of the economy and production costs
the magazine is on hold. Steve is basically right... but they hope to come back sometime
next year.. OR... do something on=line for subscribers....and offer it in print for those
who request a printed copy. I just asked Crystal, who responded, if it would be OK for
me to just cut/paste the email here on PF. I don't think she would mind.. but I just
thought I would ask her first.

Here is Crystal's reply

Because of the state of the economy and the rising cost of printing and mailing we have had to put the magazine on hold.

Our original thought was to print a double issue but that turned out to be just as expensive. So we are planning on creating the magazine as a PDF and email the document to the subscribers that we have email addresses for. We will also have the option for the subscribers to purchase a printed copy if they wish and we will extend the subscriptions by one issue for every issue we were not able to print and mail.

The magazine is available because of the readership and the love of the hobby from R&K and is unfortunately not profitable.

Thank you for your patience and support of the magazine. We hope to be able to return to something resembling normal by next year.

I've never found any figure magazine particularly useful. Inspiring, yes, but not useful. Unless our plastic modeling brethren, there generally aren't many new products or techniques in the world of figures. Most articles tend to be an overview of the painting sequence of a figure with a list of the colors used. That might be good for someone who's very new to the hobby, but once you gain the confidence to experiment and mix colors on your own, you won't necessarily follow others' formulas.

I feel bad for the subscribers who will never get their money back.......I do not think one can use the "bad economy" as an excuse to not give people what they have paid for. The Economy excuse pisses me off actually.....last time I saw a thread complaining about this it was turned into "well if you guys really like the Mag. you should send in articles for free".Typical "California Economy" nonsensical thinking. I would not pay a dime for an "online" subscription to a company that has already hosed people. And do not try to make your paid subscribers feel bad for complaining about getting ripped off....it is a shame this magazine has gone under,I used to look forward to it.
