This is a beautiful little piece Del,I too am a big Vikings fan,the textures you mentioned look very good as does the shield and design,I also like the shield at the bottom of the rocks as well, great piece of work mate

Seen this fella in the flesh, and it's a cracking scene by Derek. Now ,if we could just get him to ditch the box brownie, you too could share the work he puts in to his figures.
Brian

Brian you know the priesthood is a bit stingy with the cash  will never fork oot fura decent camera .
I too saw this one in three dimensions and as always ; attention to small detail on the groundwork is superb .

Nice painting Del

Much appreciated guys. I'm about to start a 1 week project depicting Poste Militaires Macbeth as Somerled.
The scene will be the Battle of Renfrew where he was killed. (I'll bore you with the details when I post  )
Been down to the battle site this morning and gathered up materials for the groundwork ........ keepin it real ;)

Del,
Any rules for aquiring materials from an historic site?????:whistle: Or was this a midnight run:woot:
Cheers
John

Not a problem on this one John it's where the River Cart joins the famous River Clyde. It's very very wet meadowland regularly flooded and is pretty much forgotten.
Odd considering that the outcome of the battle was pivotal in Scottish history. In fact if Somerled and his forces had won there wouldn't have been any of the Stewart Monarchs so no Charles I. At a basic level it determind whether Scotland developed as a Scot / Norman country or a Gaelic / Norse land.
I always grab some earth etc from any historical site I visit ....... I've even got some sand from the River Kwai and earth from Changi.

It did not go unnoticed. I'm glad I remembered to wear clothes that day!

And some shit from the East end

If I win the lottery I'm gonna buy a big bungalow full of glass display cases with a bed sit in the library
Buy all these figures from you all, and wander from room to room looking at them all day and not accept visitors.

This has gone on my list Del.
Beware an offer you can't refuse.

I absolutely love everything down to seeing the potential of a broken corner on the wood.

Paul, the lottery hermit

Cheers Paul. Next one posted will interest you then ;)

I am already intrigued from 'the trailer', unless you use the collected debris Ron mentioned !

I have a pinch of sand from omaha beach, (they won't miss it), and some fragments of crushed brick,
roof tile and barbed wire from the somme salient I shall use at some point.

Paul

I've got sand from the desert in Syria, but I'm not telling yous lot how I got it .
Brian

This is just thread jacking now, but Del has the patience of a saint... Obviously.I got gold from 'Them Thar Hills',

and 'Black Bush' from Bushmills in 'Nor'nIron,
it's goin nowhere near my figures though!

I heard you got a lot o' hot wind 'Downunder' too Brian,
was it from blowback from yer piper's blawbag? ;)

Paul

I reckon this post needs to draw to a conclusion.
But to explain where I get materials. Any time I go away on a trip I always research any historical sites in advance. I pack some small plastic coin bags and gather materials on site.
It started years ago when I found a collection of sand and soil samples left by a defunct mineralogy society.
Amongst mindbogling boring stuff like Oxford Street drain ditch and Ayr beach were all of the DDay beaches, and loads of the battle sites around the world that the guys in the group had collected as serviceme.
Most poignant were the samples from a number of the concentration camps. These I mixed together and my daughter quietly scattered them at a holocaust memorial on a school visit.
