Hey All

Another piece, completed last night. This is a Metal Modeles 54mm fig of a Gunner of the Horse Artillery of the Imperial Guard circa 1809.
It's painted with Vallejo acrylics, the base is homemade sugarmaple and the groundwork is Apoxie painted and washed shades of brown and yellow covered with natural rocks, roots and railroad ground cover. The bucket is a resin piece from the bits box, the rope is twisted copper wire.
I picture this gunner doing piquet duty for the battery on Lobau Island overlooking the Danube on the eve of the Battle of Wagram. Prior to the battle the Horse Artillery covered the advance of the Grande Armee across the river. Once the army deployed on the Austrian side, the Guard artillery joined the Guard Division around Aspern-Essling, covering the Left Wing of the battle line.

Thanx for looking in

Awesome Colin! I love the composition and the back story! The blue of the uniform is very, very nice! (y)
I'll have the pleasure to look closely, tomorrow!
See you soon.
Cheers,
Zeno

Colin, an excellent piece, well done! The reds of the trim are in harmony with the blues of the tunic and pants.
I like the concept of the groundwork, and the thought behind the elements. My only concern is the vibrancy of the green vegetation. To my eyes, the unpainted groundwork clashes with the well-painted miniature. Perhaps a wash of dark green, followed by some drybrushed lighter greens or green-yellow mix, might provide a range of color, and hence some "natural" look to the grasses, and enhance the project even more. Or not - it could be that the lighting (good images, too, btw!!) simply washed out the tones, and it looks better in natural light.
In any event, I think you have done an excellent job on this project! Don

Thank you so much to you all for the kind comments and helpful advice... Always very much appreciated :notworthy:.

What I thought would be a fairly simple straightforward figure, turned out to be an absolute bear with all the red-on-blue piping, lace, tassles and some-such flubbery :blackeye:, but in the end, I'm fairly happy with the end result. Metal Modeles produces a great product with the quality of the casting, the detail of the sculpt and the historical accuracy... Cheers MM (y)
The pics are a bit washed for colour on the fig and the greenery... but in the flesh, the greens are relatively bright, I was going for a Danube river bank in June, pre-battle... a nice place for a pique nique ;)

Night all... of to bed, Hamilton Model Show tomorrow :joyful:

Colin
