Ron Tamburrini
A Fixture
This was one of these ones where I had to fight it all along the way with not much going right from the start ; always on the back heel .
Problems started with the mars black which will now get binned as it has turned to a thick sludge.
I painted the hooves and white socks first before working up the legs changing to black butso much shit was coming off the M black it was peppering the white socks " will work in reverse the next time .
Second prob was the base coat " humbrol dessert sand " it had so much tooth that the oils were dragging and the base coat was not shining thru, the result of this was I had to reachfor Naples yellow deep for the highlights , you will see by the pics that I still have the right hind leg to sort out as the base colour was dragged into the white, a result of impatience and running out of fresh brushes .
One thing that has worked is the mane and tail which I wanted to show just a little reddish in the mix , something P Conrad does to great effect on his plates..
I painted the sheepskin and dogs toothing first to make things a bit easier and get a feel for the horse tone which is Burnt sienna and Burnt umber mix for the shadows , Nap yellow deep for the highs .
Here is the painting sequence ; will star with the end result to get the first pic for the thread.
Primed < Halfords
Base coat humbrol desert sand and light overspray with Tamiya XF 55
Hooves and socks done
pallette
Knees and base coat " things going tits up at this stage
slight improvement and getting to grips
some progress
Getting a bit easier
Adding highlights
almost out of the woods but a little flub-up at the right hind leg
tail detail
Match point " a typical Andy Murray Struggle "
All questions welcome
Ron
