Hi all,
I need some help please.
I'nm in the process of painting a Dragoon from Napoleons Army and am unsure how to paint the leopard skin on the helmet.
Any tips,mixes please.

Photos to come.

Cheers

Chris

Well there was some good references mentioned here on planetFigure previously but.....

PEOPLE STILL WONT USE THE BUILT IN UPLOAD FEATURE HERE SO NOW THERE'S A BUNCH OF BROKEN PHOTOBUCKET LINKS!!

Sorry for the rant, Chris ;) It gets old looking for something good and poof the image is broken :(

Google > Images > French Officer of Dragoons

The Opsrey series also has some good reference illustrations.

Oils?

In terms of the painting method, I would work from a beige undercoat, cover that with a thin layer of dull orange/orange-yellow (followed by the darker patches if you're doing any), highlight and shade that, then add the black.

Regardless of medium work directly from references so you get the rosettes or spots correct (in addition to their shape, important to get the scale right).

may I offer you some pictures of the same thing done some time ago?

consider tha frequently, except the higher rank, the panther skin for the helmet wasn't the first choice of the skin

mine has been painted in oil watching a picture of an original

mine is a line lancer, there isn't any difference for the panther skin
