I currently working on the Soldiers 90mm figure of Edward, Prince of Wales (AKA Black Prince)

I working in acrylics and have painted and shaded the lions passant and fleur-de-lys in different shades of yellow. I now am thinking of adding a very thin coat of a metallic gold. My goal is to simulate the light catching some of the gold thread in the sewing of these items on the jupon.

Any ideas on a successful way to simulate this?
Thanks!
Chuck

PS I did do a search but all that came up were old links that didn't work or old threads with the pics removed. :dead:

Of late, I have been introduced to the, 'Mr Hobby', range of metallic paint! ... which can be 'buffed', via brush or cloth, to a very high sheen! Have you used these before? ... a small touch here and there, and polished may give the result you seek, by running a small flat brush across the top

Regards,

Mark

Mark, I have tried Gunze Mr Hobby buffable metallics. I don't think that will give me the finish I'm looking to obtain. I think that it would be too shiny if that makes any sense. Here's a pic of what I'm going for.

Reproduction of the original at the Prince's tomb.

I thinking more in the line of a controlled wash or filter of metallic paint as opposed more of a dry brushing technique. I trying to give the yellow areas that little additional "pop"!

Megroot posted a great link. That's very useful. Just rmember that gold NMM is all about highlight placement. That will make it or break it so to speak.

What you can do is paint the metallics with a gold acrylic paint. After a 24 dry period give it a wash with burned umber.
After another drying period of 24 hours, give the highlights a touch up with gold mixed with napels yellow .
I think the book of Danilo Cartacci is a good investment. lots of tips and good pictures

Thanks Rene for your suggestion. I've already painted the "gold" areas in a light ocher color and done the shadow and highlights. I am working almost exclusively in acrylic paints. I think it came out rather good, so for now I plan to leave it as is. I hope to post some pics and get some feedback/ criticism on how it looks.
