Today I sketched a design on one of the flags with acrylics. I'll tidy it up and refine the details with oils.

Thanks Ulrich, after a couple of false starts and painting out it actually turned out better than expected.

Thanks Chris. Making decals is a good idea, however using them would seriously effect my standing in the flat figure painting community.
I'll give painting a design freehand and if that goes wrong there's always the half red, half white option to fall back on.

Can understand that and after seeing your design on the flag now, marvelous, me I would run to the printer,
I was alright at drawing as long as it was straight lines and circles. I will watch for the finish of this figure and no doubt sit opened mouth looking at it.

Thanks Chris. painting designs on flags and heraldry has always been an area I've shied away from. I have now learnt the best way to go about it is not to try and do the whole thing in one sitting but build up the design slowly taking a break in between sittings.

I still need to highlight the edges of the feathers that are in front of the banner and maybe go a bit higher with the highlights on the banner itself but this is how it's looking at the moment.




There was no way I was going to try and replicate the eagle on the reverse so.....
