Hello guys, to show I've not been totally idle here's my latest effort.
This was really an experiment in doing a black hosre, as this is my first. The rider I'm not really all that happy with to be honest with you all, so please feel free to be a critic.
PS yes I do know I said I was sick of mounted Napoleonics after my last one...but the bug bit me again. Please understand. ;)

Anthony-

For me, I like it and would not call this mediocre. I hope you enjoyed the effor anyway... ;)

It may be the photo but the rein in his left hand appears not to lie flat? Perhaps this is jingling...?
Also, perhaps less high highlights on the bottoms of colpack and the horse tail?

The steel on the sabre blade does not seem bright enough.

I do like the blues, I do like the horse overall and the golds are nicely done, too!

The overall look is very good Anthony.
You wanted some real critism. I think you made the black with blue and other colors. For highlighting you use also blue. I don't like that because it seems to blue instead of highlighted black. In other words, you are going to far with the blue in highlight.

Anthony,

I certainly wouldn't call this mediocre!. I would have used dark brown to highlight the black horse, as all black horses are actually brown!
No problems with the figure, althought the first picture isn't falttering - It's too great an enlargement from normal size. I'm sticking to no more tham twice life size in future after advice on my own work!

Anthony, your work is not mediocre, you have done a good job on a difficult figure to paint.
I personally think that the pictures don't do it justice.

Keep up the good work.

Cheers
Roc. :)

Nice work Anthony, I had to do two of these figures simultaneously as commissions but as the original Metal models box art. I think You have done a nice job.

Fellas as always, all comments are appreciated. Thanks again.

Marc, I know exactly what you mean in terms of the highlights, but I will blame the photography on that one! It's not that blue in the flesh.

Keith, yes the hand is quite loose around the reins, my sample seemed to be cast that way to an extent, I'll check if it needs more doing to it.

Steve, I take my hat off to you for doing two identical pieces in one hit...that is some going.

I did enjoy doing it, I'm just not that happy with the end product somehow. I will do another of these at some point in the (distant) future using totally different colours, as a moderate amount of research will let you get away with almost any colours at all on this one....

Guy, Jaime, Maurizio, Christos, Periklis, Roc you are all very kind, thanks again.
Dave, I have read before that black horses are really brown, guess I bottled out, it was my first!

Had some good pointers from FigureMad as well last night at the club. And I'll take those on board as well.
Onwards & upwards fellas!
