Hello fellow PF members,

This time I have a question for you that has really confused me. I'm about to finish an excellent figure from Pegaso Imperial Guard, Empress΄ Dragoons Officer, 1806-15.
Here is my question. On the informational sheet inside the box, says that the epaulletes and cords etc.. are painted silver. On the box art those parts are painted in yellow gold. So I got confused. In some references in websites some are gold and some silver. So my question is, which color is the correct one.
Please if you know something that could help, reply and I would be greatly thankful.
Thanks in advance

Xenofon

Hi Xenofon,

I have looked through a number of references that I have and there seems to be a fair bit of contradiction, however I have found that a few of them seem to say that the Empress Dragoons epaulettes, cords etc where a light orange in colour except in the case of the Officer's - which was gold. Trumpeter's epaulettes where sky blue with a gold crescent and all cords and tassels gold.
Hope this helps. I'm sure if I am wrong one of our more knowledgable pf members will let us know :)

Xenofon, Steve is correct. According to L. Rousselot, in plate #13, the troopers aiguillettes and epaulettes were indeed an "aurore-colored" (light orange) material. The officers were of a gold material. I think some of the confusion comes from the line dragoons uniforms where the epaulettes were indeed silver for officers.

2 side notes. One- the plume. Where the color for the plume would be white for headquarters officers, company officers wore a red plume. Secondly, I think, in my opinion, that the epaulette fond on the right shoulder is too large. This could be easily fixed by carefully shaving off the epaulette and replacing it with putty.

Hope this helps,
Jim Patrick

Thanks a lot for your replies. I will paint the epaulettes gold then. So Jim you say that the plume should be red for the particular figure right??

Hello Xenofon, it seems that you've hit upon the age-old problem of (particularly) Napoleonic modelling. "Which source do I use?" It seems that you've got some different options that would all be 'correct'. Pick the one that you fancy the most. If it IS there in some reference material somewhere it has to ave some basis in fact. Rousselot is as good a reference as it gets, so I'd agree with Jim's assessment. (y)

Xenofon, the color of the plume is up to you. Is your figure a headquarters officer or is he a company officer? It's your choice. I just wanted to show you another option. Keep us posted with another one Maurizio Bruno's great sculpts! ;)
