A Fixture
Greetings ALL,
I have had the idea to create a new Thread Category entitled ' Uniform Reference ' I have been in contact with the moderators and they think it is feasible but will require a lot of thought and effort, to put into practice.
This site has a plethora of information on this subject but it is spread all over the place. The members knowledge of this subject is second to none but the information is in their heads or own library.
The Idea is to post images of original Uniform, Headgear, Accoutrements , Weapons, etc. as shown below :-
This is an actual coatee of a Coldstream Guards, Guardsman 1855. Fact. Not an artists impression or best educated guess. But Fact.
Below is is a painting /print of Other Ranks Guard Order 1844. Note No lace and buttons shown on the tail of the coatee. My point being although it looks right its NOT.
Although the above print appears incorrect it is still helpful but should be used as secondary information, BUT not posted on this thread,
So thats my Idea, The integrity of the thread will be in the hands of the members that post.
I would also say that the actual thread should not be used for discussion or helpful advice??
ONLY Post image and brief description.
The next problem is how to break it down.
My original thought was to have a separate thread for each Regiment but that in hindsight would be huge. So plan 'B' is to break it down into periods of history. ie Napoleonic British, Napoleonic French. Crimean. AWI, WW1 etc.

THAT'S IT.
If you have taken the trouble to read all this I would appreciate any and all comments as to if in your opinion there is any mileage in it. Would it be helpful????????
Thanks
