Illegal Copies of figures ...

I think that whenever you find a figure of which you're sure they are recasts you should in all cases let the original producer know. At the same time you can go around to other forums to warn people about this. Criminals don't like it when they get too much attention and not everybody can spot a copy. That's why the ebook with CMON articles I discussed elsewhere was pulled off EBAY fairly fast.

As to Ebay, there is this page, though going from Luca I don't know how much it helps. Still, I'd drop a mail there.

Thanks for your contribution to this discussion. I, for one, hope that you and the other producers will continue to speak out against illegal copying and pursue these scoundrels in the courts to the full extent of the law. If you and the other producers do not speak out, it will appear to the world that you do not care about this issue. That is the wrong message to send, IMHO.

As for publicizing the fact that illegal copies are out there, don't worry. It's widely known already, and it's a problem in many other industries too. We need to make the risks for illegal copies not worth taking. Producers need to enforce their rights. We in the artistic community need to adopt and enforce among ourselves the ethical value that we will not support these scoundrels in any way. This means that we will not buy illegal copies ourselves, we will actively discourage others from buying them, and we will report illegal copies to the rightful owner when we find them.

If I know or become aware of a figure posted here on planetfigure that is a pirated copy it will be removed from the planet and the poster warned.

This form of theft has been going on for decades. Probably before Bussler started knocking off Staddens. What is frustrating is so little legal recourse is available.
We're all quite aware that the knock-off business would not be worth the effort if there wasn't a ready market. For every miniaturist with the integrity not to buy a copy there must be others more than willing. Simply supply based on demand.
Another point....these people are not 'faceless shadowy entities'. They KNOW the business, so others within the world miniature community must know them! The fact that copies are found is one thing. Putting a name to the thief would be of immense help in curtailing this business. Putting a face to the name will close some doors to him as well. But who speaks the names???

On a step further to this effort, i have already be preparing an open letter of protest again piracy , that will be published in the next issue of MODEL EXPERT magazine of Greece that i am a monthly article writer. If more know maybe more will avoid.

Hey guys,

Here is a funny thing, I asked the person on the ebay sites a question. My question, which I already knew the answer, and so should anyone, if they ever read the Pegaso site, who the sculptor was for the Roman Legionnaire.

Here is the answer:

sorry i don't know

I guess they have no idea who sculpts for them and paints for them! ;) Maybe if they were legit they would have a clue. Maybe we should all send this guy the answer? Funny just took a look at what this seller has and now they have a few others I recognize and some Verlinden stuff as well!!

It would be interesting to ask to that dude what will do the PayPal service after sending a note about the illegal use of a paypal account, used to collect money from illegal traffics.

Guys,
Yes, there's not much for the original manufacturers to do about these.
We can only avoid buying these and also inform the buyers that these are counterfeit.
