An update available today for Windows 10 brings now for the first time waste separation on domestic PCs.
Instead of the well-known wastebasket, five differently colored containers are now visible on the desktop after the update - one each for photos, videos, music files, text documents and residual waste. Users are encouraged to dispose of their data accordingly sustainable.
For example, files with the following endings belong in the photo basket: .jpg, .png, .psd, .tiff, .gif, .bmp, .svg
These files come into the paper garbage ton: .doc, .docx, .pdf, .txt, .xls, .xlsx
Files with the following endings belong to the video garbage ton: .wmv, .mp4, .avi, .mkv, .flv
To land in the music trash ton: .wma, .mp3, .wav, .flac, .alac, .m4a,.
Most other files end up in the yellow rubbish ton.
New is also:
When emptying the trash, the discarded files are then no longer - as before - simply deleted, but recycled if possible. The color from old photos is used, for example, to fill the paint bucket in "Microsoft Paint" resource-saving.
In turn, old Word documents are processed into new, slightly grayer Word documents.
However, particularly toxic and non-recyclable files such as computer viruses, GILF porn videos or Donald Trump speeches can no longer be disposed directly on the desktop, but must be transferred to a USB stick and then sent to Microsoft by mail for hazardous waste disposal.
Cheers
