Hello Planet,

These are 1/72 scale figures from Italeri. Hope you enjoy. As an experiment, I tried concentrating on making the groundwork BEFORE I painted the figures.

I usually rush the groundwork and do a shabby job of it - something about the excitiment of finishing the project once the figures are painted.

By doing the groundwork first, I think I was able to dedicate the proper time to the WHOLE scene. I'm pretty happy with the results.

So If you're like me, I strongly suggest you try building/painting the groundwork BEFORE painting the figures.

Jon, The groundwork looks good, as do the figures. There are not many folks putting that much work into 1/72 figures. The figures go well with the setting you've put them in. My only comment is that given the number of figures I would have added more figures or put them on a smaller base to create the illusion of a much larger force. It's really no big deal and is something to consider when doing your next project. (y)~Gary

Lovely, Jon, very well done, base (I LOVE bases!!) and the little guys! Very detailed ground work, nice colour composition and exquisite painted.

I like the small scale stuff, too, and would like to paint these softvinyl figures, but how the heck do you remove the mold lines??? I go for pewter or resin figures because they are easy to handle, this stuff here keeps me trouble when trying to clean them.

Just use the sharpest of scalpel blades and go very smoothly.

Very nice work, showing the potential of the much underrated small scall figurines. Also brilliant photos for this scale.

The mold lines and flash are really the big downside to this scale of figures. The detail on 1/72 being done today is incredible and Jon has shown what a painter is capable of doing with them.~Gary

Why not making this figures in "normal" plastic (Polystyrol?) Is it so much more expensive than doing in this vinyl?

But anyway, I guess I will give it a try. Like Andreas said, a sharp scalpell will tackle the problem!

Hello all.

Thank you for all the input. I agree with Gary that there could be more figures on the base - but I was actually trying to show a small party in a BIG space. A bad habit of mine is trying to cram too many figures into a scene and I was trying to go in the other direction. But again - I agree that Gary's point is quite valid.

As for the trimming of flash - Yes, it is a bit of a drag. I always use a BRAND NEW exacto-blade, an optivisor, and take small passes to remove little bits of flash. TIP: Don't try to remove too much at once - you will end up removing detail from the figure.

The good news with these figures is that you get multiple copies of each pose for $7.00. I blew through a few of each trimming flash.

I also swapped heads on the figure on the right - THAT was a flash nightmare!

Thanks again,

Jon
