Hi everyone,

Firstly let me intrioduce myself, My name is Aaron Brown i'm a sculptor living in New Zealand. I mainly sculpt 28mm-54mm figures for the wargaming and toy soldier markets but have also started working on larger figures/busts.

This is a 1/6 scale bust of a US civil war soldier i've just finished, all comments and CC's welcome

Very nicely done~! I particularly like the face and the rough texture of the bedroll. The hole in the fabric looks right!! The hair - no offense - IMHO doesn't look exactly right unfortunately. The beard is great! At 1/6th scale I would expect to see more hair lines in the rest of the hair - no, not separate strands, but bunches following similar direction and possibly a few more curls. Could be your photo doesn't show the hair distinctly enough. Just my opinion - feel free to disagree.

All the best,
Dan

Very Nice. I have to agree with the hair it looks sort of clumpy. from a practical/reenactor perspective I would have put the bedroll the other way but their was no standard. It still looks incredible though. Love the hole in the blanket. Are those marbles for eyes?

Matt

Hi, It's very nice.
Especialy the wrinkles and the drapery's texture. I like also the way you sculpted the hairs. I'm sure that you know it already -> Good job! :)

Regards, Piotr

Nicely done. The texture on the bed roll is outstanding, as is the rope tieing it. The hair doesn't particularly bother me. The beard is spot-on. This guy has a look of age and experience, I like it! Oh, and welcome to the Planet! Lets see more of this great work!

Nice work on the bust,i like the rugged veteran and aged look you have captured with the figure, will make it more interesting for painting. As others have said the bedroll texture is fantastic and really adds to the piece, very well done with this.
Do you have a website as im sure i have came across your sculpting elsewhere?

Steve

Beautiful sculpt! Like the others I love the texture of the blanket and the aged apperance of the face.

However, I will disagree with others about the hair. I think it is spot on. If the hair was sculpted in thin strands it would look weird, most of the texture of hair will be painted on, which will be more in scale anyways.

Top Job!

GO THE ALL BLACKS

Hi Everyone,

thanks for the comments.

I agree with Dan and Matt about the hair, I think next time i'll keep it in the same size "clumps" but lightly detail each one to break it down further.

thanks, I'm happy with the blanket, I made up a little paintbrush with thin wire for brisles, crosshatched the blanket with it and then picked out details with a sharp point.

I may cast him my self but will probably try and sell him with reproduction rights etc.

Hi Steve, yip my site is www.blackcrabsculpting.com . As I mentioned I mainly do smaller stuff but am getting into busts etc (and really enjoying it!)

Hi Chris, Yes i'm in Takapuna, where are you?

thanks everyone for making me welcome
