Thanks Colin and Chris.
A lot of the info came from Sykes Regulars in the US and some from me.
Colin, I use acrylics and oil on top but this time just acrylic. I find that the oil blues tend to be too glossy. The metals paints came from Games workshop, the brass, I thinned down some burnt umber and that was the shadow, highlighted with a lighter shade of brass. The tin mug was washed in burnt umber and then stippled with black.
Sykes regulars is full of info such as sutler stores (where you buy your kit) can be found here. http://www.sykesregulars.org/equipment/equipment.php
If you wanted to depict an earlier soldier from say 1861 or early 1862 then you can go with dark blue trousers
Thanks for the comments

Thanks John,
I had a go at re-enacting this period for 10 years, so got a feel as to how the kit was worn and of course researched a lot too.
Kind regrds

Very nice rendition, Bob! I like it in every aspect!
Are you going to scratch the musket sling? If you do so, show us as many details as possible. Thanks a lot!
Looking forward to see this piece completed!
Cheers,
Zeno
Thanks Zeno for the comment
Will I scratch a sling, No.
And here is why. An ordinance return by a company of a Pennnslyvania regt in 1862 had 47 muskets and only 15 musket slings. They were not issiued to soldiers on a regular basis. Some photo's show muskets without slings and some you cannot define. I'm not saying they were never used but This soldier is not going to have one.
Thanks again, regards
Bob
