Dear Friends from the Planet,

I just order the Soldiers AMERICAN WOODLANDS INDIAN, 1760 , ref. SBH-4. When I look into my small library just find Louis XV's Army (5) Colonial and Naval Troops (MMA313) and Don Troiani's Soldiers in America 1754-1865, but just would like to know more about the war painting, equipment, weapons(beside muskets), belts patterns and more about their culture, does any one have a good book or website reference. Any help pr comments about this figure would be welcome.

This would be my first Native American figure and I'm really excited about it so I want to do a good job with this little Warrior.

You could acquire The Art of Robert Griffing, an artist specialized in woodland tribes.

There are many images of Griffing's work in the site, and you can get the book from them, too.

Osprey have a book on Woodland tribes, #228 MAA series. Ckeck their website.

Thanks Daniel, this is a really helpfull site and I would get a copy of his work, just looking in the Osprey site and found "Tribes of the Iroquois Confederation", MMA395 by Michael Johnson , I was reading the book of Mr Johnson "Encyclopedia of Native Tribes of North America" and found many answers to my question but still looking for more.

I can recommend wholeheartedly this book. The illustrations are among the best of Hook's works, very informative and extremely accurate. One of the most used books in my library.

Yep, I forgot about that one!

I subscribe what Quang has said on "The native tribes of N.A.". Another general book on the subject that I would recommend is "The Native Americans", various authors, edited by Colin F. Taylor; a large format book with lots of double-page colour photos of artifacts and preserved pieces, and full of colour and b/w illustrations. I think it is out of print but it is easily found in second-hand books sites.

This is the book mentioned by Dani.

Dr. Colin Taylor (who passed away recently) was one of the leading authorities on the Plains culture. All his books without exception are highly recommended.

Thanks Dani and Quang, never thought I could find some many help, Who say that one good reference is enough¡¡¡¡¡¡¡ :lol: , this morning I order the book "Native Americans" by Colin F. Taylor, is at Amazon for $3.75(Like new) , those anyone have seem this one, is also by Colin F. Taylor "Native American Weapons"

My older brother love the native american culture so when I saw the figure I knew it would be a nice present, but after reading almost all night about the Iroquois and their way of life, I decide to keep the figure and give him a nice print of Mr Robert Griffing, is the The White shirt.

I want to thank you for bringing up this question, as I too was going to post the same question. I bought the Michael Roberts " A moment in time" and even though I wont start it for some time till this Fall, I begin research now. And thanks to everyone for their very helpful links.

Books - C. Keith Wilbur, New England Indians, 2nd - a wealth of pictoral info on the Woodland tribes, including the Iroquois.
could alos check this museum site and ask around:

Yes, this is an excellent reference book to have, I heartily recommend it too. Mine is in the older (?) black dustjacket with red type and an inset picture of Buffalo Bull's Back Fat.
