Was browsing through the net do some research for my website when I came across this little beauty from Bonepartes. I was also very lucky to track down and get a copy of this and it's winging it's way to me as we speak, Just goes to shown if you dig a little deeper it amazing what you can find.
I think its a British staff officer (red tabs on collar) but don't what what period from history its from. Looks like it could be Colonial. Sudan? Boer War? Any thoughts?

Pete,

I'm no expert on these matters, but my guess is that he's probably a British Brigade Major/ Staff Officer from the Boer War period up to early WW1. He could be a British officer serving with the Indian Army too. He's definitely not an Australian.

The red arm band should provide some clue. What is painted on there?

Also, did you notice that the major crowns on the sleeves appear to have been sculpted on upside down? The five white stripes around the sleeve seem odd to me too. I thought here were three stripes for a major, two for a captain and one for a lieutenant.

As I said, I'm no expert. Just trying to help.

I'm also not familar with the service ribbons. They look invented to me, as if someone painted them without reference to actual campaign ribbons. It's a beaut looking bust, and I'm looking forward to seeing what you will do with it.

Lucky

Pete ,
This was originally produced by a company called Celtic Miniatures , now sadly defunct , Dave Freeman obtained the moulds and thankfuly produced it , you were lucky to find it ..I am sure you will do a great job .

Lucky

Pete,
This was produced as a staff officer (major) at Gallipoli ...attached to the New Zealand Mtd Division (2 Mtd on armband in picture) , if he is a veteran of the Boer/South African Wars , the medals should be at least the King and Queens South African with another , up to you ..Military Cross perhaps ...although not sure if this was instituted then , I have painted this ....a long time ago!!!!!!also but promoted him to a Colonel on the Divisional Ordnance staff (with an O on the armband ) .
The face is full of character , I replaced the metal pin that came with it for the cane .......be carefu of the edge of the hat its very fragile , if yours is an original it will be in an almost fine china finish , easy to paint on and held the detail well .

...think I might clean mine off again !!!

Lol. Sorry mate. I used to be like this when I was a old skool ragga jungle dj. People used to be in awe of my record collection and 300+ dubplates I had! You could see people go green with envy!
I think part of the fun was tracking down all those elusive tunes and I apply the same to this hobby especially if you can get them for a good price. Everyone loves a bargain.
