Hi Guys ,

I met a rather nice guy at IPMS Salisbury model show recently whilst demonstrating my techniques with a 6" brush !!!!!

His name was Ian , and has just joined our happy family as Wellington1965 ...BIG WELCOME to PF mate...this is the place to get all the help you want

During our converstaion he mentined he had a bust (my ears immediately opened wider;)) , send me a picture I said ...so he did .....

Now its obviously Crimean and Scottish and from the collar lace an officer, he looks to be wearing a greatcoat over his shoulder rather than plaid , looks like LT company wings on his shoulders, the crossbelt badge could be Black Watch, its got great facial features .....................

Can anyone ID this piece as I rather like it and wouldn't mind getting one (shock that eh)

Any help is much appreciated

Ian .....we look forward to seeing this posted in the painting forum as WIP

Kevin,
That is a bust by Maurice Corry from a few years back (I cannot remember but around 3-5 years). Its a solid one piece casting. He came out with a couple of different busts, one was a German tank commander. The box art is just the bust in primer and the description is very vague. I dont think they are made any more but I did get mine thru Red Lancers. You may want to check with Chuck, he might know of someone selling one. Good luck its a beautiful kit.

Cheers,

Sean

This sounds about right, except the model in the picture has already been undercoated myself with Tamiya white primer. I will take some more pics Kevin detailing any badges and the epaulettes etc…

Ian.

Hi Kevin and Ian,
This is a super figure that I would love to have.......if you find any Kevin;).
I would agree that the badge on the cross belt looks like a Black Watch. My only doubt, and it may be just a sculpting error, is that there would normally have a Victoria Crown on the uppermost point of the star. Without the crown it could be a Royal Scots Officer but I am not sure that the bonnet would be correct for this regiment in the Crimea. I think that during this campaign they were known as 1st regiment of foot and would have most likely worn the 'Albert' shako.
For me, add a crown and call it Black Watch.
Cheers,
Keith

Could it be a 93rd Highlander as in the thin red line fame ? Crimea isn't my strong point

Hi Steve,
I can see where you are coming from but I am not sure that the 93rd had the order of the thistle on the officers crossbelt. That said most highland figures from this period were of the thin red line 93rd Highlanders.
The plot thickens??

Hi Guys ,

I an sent me these picture showing some of the great detail on the bust , looking at the badge on the rosette under the plume it looks to be a sphinx , nice work from Mr C on the epaulette .

Here are the pictures(you should get the idea)

Hi Ian,
Most likely period with this style of feather bonnet is the Crimean Wars 1854.
Before this time, Napolionic, the bonnet was a much smaller affair without the tails that hang on the lefthand side of the hat.
A very similar version of this bonnet is still in use, Full Dress, today.
Looking forward to seeing this one painted up, and would love to own one.
Cheers,
Keith

Of course I will put my finished bust on the site, only done one bust before (Verlinden Coldstream Guards Officer) so I am not brilliant. I gave it to my Dad who is going to take picture for me which I will put on the site. Many members hve expressed a wish to own one of these busts. I purchased it off ebay a few years ago, the seller who I think may have been female did about 4 or 5 similr size busts, but I have not seen any on ebay for some time.

Cheers - Ian.

I have this one in the box from Maurice Corry Miniatures
MCB1
Officer Black Watch 1854 purchased from Colorado Miniatures a few years ago. It is a 1/6 scale . Not painted yet

Hi Guys ,

Mike ...if you want to part with this please pm me !!!!!

OK her is the only bust I have done plus a French Imperial Guard. Did a few years ago hence the standard so it is something I would really like to get in to and improve on.

This is probably in the wrong thread, but any advice would be greatly recieved.
