Well, I will try to explain this properly.....I was eating a sandwich two days ago and I have some dental crowns on some of my upper teeth; and low and behold one came off and I swallowed it. For me crowns are not cheap; ..but I am. I'm talking $11oo for a new one. So now I have a sifting screen in my toilet trying to catch that bugger, Yea I know...bad visual... If anyone has any advise it would be appreciated.
As for now......all I can say is..."this toof shall pass".
Might be funny, but it's really not.

Advice? Yeah, Swallow a bottle of prune juice, then follow up with copious doses of castor oil.
Hey presto - clean as a whistle.

Ya know Harry, I appreciate the spiritual advice, but that sounds down right cruel. Right now I'm trying Vodka and cranberry juice. I'm hoping I pass the toof tommorow. But I really appreciate your concern.
Minus one toof,
Wayne

O.K..Nap…..Ya doesn't have to call Mr. one toof……but I will answer your question because I like you. I have been glueing my own crowns on for maybe the last three years. And no it's not super glue but it's pretty much the same stuff that dentists use and charge $ 100.oo to put the f...n crown back on to make you look like George Cloony again....If anyone has the same issue I would be glad to explain further...….Right now......Not in the mood.
I will add one major point...…………….Don't swallow the f....k'n crown...………………………………...Wayne

Vodka and cranberry juice?
Pleasant as it may be - that's just giving you Dutch courage and won't speed up the, uuh, "process".
Stop pussyfooting around and drink Belgian wheat beer, lots of it - sediment and all.
Before you know it, you'll have your crown back - and lose the proverbial load of weight as well - prob'ly.
:yuck:

This might come back to bite you on the bum.
Hope the crown is successfully recovered and replaced. Think I'd do the same at a thousand quid a pop.
Jon.

Well, since three days have passed and the crown did not "surface" I think "Elvis has left the building" by now.
But hey, this is Planet Figure and there's nothing that a bit of Magic Sculpt can't do and man, are you lucky!!
Just send a PM to DioramArt He just made one lovely crown. I'm sure he will be more then willing to make another.

Been there with a patient and we recemented after disinfecting. Crowns come out for different reasons: short tooth- poor retention, heavy bite, wrong type of cement for long term, decay, poor fit, etc. If you are recementing with over the counter cement it won't resist wash out if the crown fits poorly or if there is decay or if you have a heavy bite and the tooth is short. Even with "permanent" dental cement some will loosen after about 8 years, again if the patient grinds their teeth or if the tooth is short and the preparation too tapered. These days we can "bond" the crown to the tooth to increase retention.
Super glue, while it works in the short term, is not moisture resistant and eventually fails as the tooth is naturally moist from within, especially if it has not had a root canal.
I would suggest, of course, you have it evaluated by a dentist and recemented.

Enjoyed all the humor about your episode. Eat more roughage and find the crown. Worst case would be if it embeds in your colon and causes a medical issue. Finding it is important.

I was hoping someone would respond with a bit of dental knowledge. I explained my situation with a little humor but its' getting a little old now. Not being able to find the crown has not been a chore that's for sure and the process even worse. And my main concern was where did it go. I have had a problem with the right one that I have fixed twice using what's called Glass Ionomer that actually works quite well. I'm calling my dentist tomorrow for an app0intment. But the one that recently came off I've had for at least 15 yrs. This has been the fifth day now sifting for gold and it's no picnic. Thanks for your reply and input.

Glass ionomer is a permanent cement that has the advantage of releasing fluoride to help prevent decay at the margins of the crown. Good luck with your hunt. There is the possibility it passed quickly before you started your search. I once swallowed a coin, as a youngster, that was never found. Mom had been searching at home but I went to the bathroom at the hospital just before the xray and all was clear.
