Hello all,

Attached is an image of the WIP image of my Japanese ashigaru, 1600. The foot soldier belonged to the troops of Kato Kiyomasa

Looks very nice Vince. #1 in a series I'm guessing? (y)
Thanks John! Yes this is #1 in this Oriental series. I am hoping to put more effort in Asian subjects but lately I am going through some winter depression ( I guess ) and haven't done anything with putty for more than a month already.

I need to use Manifying glass to do the sculpting, so don't feel too bad:) I guess I may be older than you do, I belong to the year '58.

Quang,

Didn't expect you are from the year 2048:)))) That's a lot younger than I do;-)

To be serious, you are doing fine. Your eyesight is much better than a lot of the guys in their thirties. I bet ten years later, I might only be able to work on 1000mm figures.

Alex,

Thanks. Hopfully I can drive myself back to the workbench and do the finishing touches for the figure. Now I still have to do the spear and the detail on the sword.

Hi Jason,

Thanks. Frankly, I also look forward to seeing more images of your figure vignette with the soldiers greeting the emperor ( if I not mistaken ).

very interested figure...

I'll wait to releaseing this figure.

1600, Kato kiyomasa's ashigaru took part in the battle of sakigahara. Isn't it?

Generally, He and his troops are well-known in korea. because they invade old korean kingdom. and he was the supreme commander of second corps.

although the invasion to korea and the battle of sekigahara have a difference just about 10 years in terms, they have different shapes of cloth, arms on ashigaru.
If you aimed to express several battles including the invasion of korea, you have to think that this figure have some option part proper each battle.

but, this figure is very interesting... please post new image if you have more SBS pictures.

have a nice day....

Hello Lee,

This is an interesting question. This ashigaru armour was based on information from Tousei Gusoku. The jingasa showned should be lacquered in gold with a large dull red cirle with Japanese words. The hi okegawa-do is lacquered gold with dull red edge and written "Namu Myoho Renge Kyo" which should means something as " Blessed and Hail to the wonderful dividine Law of Blossom Lotus ( of Buddhist teaching? ) Whether this is exactly how Kato's troop dressed at the Battle of Sekigahara, frankly I cannot confirm it. I had search through pictures from various Japanese museums for Japanese panel paintings about the Battle of Sakigahara but there's hardly anything with Kiyomasa's army ( may be I'd missed it or haven't found one yet ). The only book that mentioned the date of this armour is from Stephen Turnbull's "ashigaru".
