You don't pay UK import duty on goods with a total value (including postage) of less than £135.

I don't mind VAT, but ain't in any hurry so shan't be stumping up for import duties.

You don't pay import duty. I have brought figures from Italy, Germany and Greece, never paid it.

Correct Bob.

If your package gets intercepted on entry to the UK and is deemed to be above a certain value (I forget what that is exactly), you will get charged 20% VAT, plus whatever "handling fee" ParcelFarce are charging that week (which seems to vary depending on the phase of the moon and/or whether there's a letter "r" in the month).

As someone said higher up, there is no "import duty" below 135 Pounds.

It's the "handling fee" that pisses me off. Just an excuse to charge you more (a variation of the "booking fee" for gigs and theatre tickets, or the "admin fee" that you sometimes have to pay for someone to press a button or two on a keyboard).

I always thought customs were paid a wage so why get charged a handling fee when it’s their job !! ....

Didn’t realise Parcelfarce did the same sort of thing .......when it suits them it appears !!

Obviously I live in a different world ..lol

Exactly Kev. It's their job in the first place. It's all bill-hooks.

Half the time, it's cheaper to traipse there and fetch it in person...:(

I ordered a kit from UK to ship to Canada. The seller shipped it by Parcelforce. I wanted the kit to ship by Royal Mail. When model kit ship by Royal Mail it will handle by Canada Post when it arrives in Canada and no duty or tax will be charged. But the seller insists Parcelforce is the same same as Royal Mail which is not. Parcelforce is courier services for Royal Mail. Items ship by any courier ( FedEx, UPS, DHL etc.) is deemed to be charged brokerage fee, handling fee, custom duty and sale tax. When the kit was delivered I had to pay a total of £30 for the whole lot.
