As I’ve nearly finished on the Into the jaws of Death WIP I decided to start on something I recently purchased from Paul at Model Cellar. It’s a 1/9 scale bust of the French Corsair, Jean Bart. The bust is sculpted by Pavol Ovecka and it’s a cracker. The face is so full of detail and character and this is partly what attracted me to it in the first place. The casting is great, there only being two parts, the main body and the hat. I’ve started on the face (the oils are still a bit wet) and need to go back to finish off the eyes. The wig and hat are just blocked in with enamel basecoats at present. Depending on how quickly this progresses I may get chance to tackle Paul’s Lewis Gunner bust, sculpted by Carl Reid, which I picked up at the same time.

Any comments as always are welcome,

Neal.

Thanks Kev. If you haven’t already got it in your stash then I would heartily recommend it. Hopefully I’ll get chance to put some oils on the hair tomorrow (not my own I hasten to add!)

Managed to do a little bit more on this today. So far I’ve finished off the eyes and started on the wig. I referred to Geoff’s recent WIP on elan13’s Old Major bust of around the same period regarding the wig colour scheme. As it dries a little I’ll push the highlights a bit more. I’ve started to block in the main colours and completed the tunic in oils. I’ve also started the oil coat on his hat. Both are still wet but hopefully will lose the sheen as they dry out.

Thanks Kev. It’s all The privateering he’s been doing, must be rich pickings on those English and Dutch merchant vessels.
