Hi Folks

Missed this thread initially otherwise would have commented before now

It's a nice set and a weapon not seen that often

Personally confused about selling to "trusted customers" .....if people can't buy then how are they going to be a trusted customer
Gary has raised good points

We all know about recasting and its effects to all company's

I see a lot of comments about a lack of response to emails/messages etc .......something that I firmly believe is important to good customer service...not matter what company

Sure the " lucky 50 "will get a lot of pleasure from their purchases

I understand Jeff's desperation. A lot of his recent releases are already pirated and I guess that he feels the economical damage. Maybe he tries to figure out who among his customers might have been involved by ordering these kits and passing them to the pirates. The problem is that nobody knows his standards for becoming a trusted customer and for someone who is not eligible for being served. So anyone who fails in placing an order will ask himself why he is on the black list. Hopefully this business concept will ensure the commercial success Jeff is after. I am afraid that the pirates he wants to stop live close by....

Why and indeed how would anyone “pass them to the pirates”?

Far more likely I think is that the pirates ordered them direct from JS. So they could conceivably even be on his “trusted customer” list already. Which really would be weapons-grade irony.

I agree with you though that the qualifications for becoming a “trusted customer” do seem very nebulous.

A few might, but this kind of sales attitude will ensure that the majority of the 50 never get made, just stored for a while then scalped on ebay for a "Super Rare Limited Edition" profit.
Then the pirate's accomplice in UK or EU or USA buys one and ships it to China or Russia for recasting.
Best thing is the eBay scalper will probably make more profit than the sculptor/producer did in the first place.

Have to admit I had never heard of Jeff Shiu until seeing his Motorcycle Combo in a sales thread on here, not my sort of thing but as someone just getting back into the hobby, if it had been and I wanted to support Mr Shiu and buy this from him, only to be told he did not trust me, I would not be polite in telling him what he could do with his models.

I am just going by Jeff`s remarks and have no intimate knowledge. If he separates between "trusted" and "regular" customers he seems to have an idea of excluding some customers from the suspicion that they bought as pirates or pass to pirates... these are the trusted customers - the others are the mistrusted and frustrated customers:unsure:
The best idea would be if Jeff would take part in this discussion and clarify his new approach to marketing his products. Do you hear me Jeff?

Well said Martin and I am somewhat intrigued to hear his presumed cogent and rationale submission to this position...assuming he takes the time to do so of course.

As I said in an earlier post, why promote your products on this site if the promotion then includes a caveat that those reading the thread, by default, are not 'trusted' and 'allowed' to then buy them because of presumed honesty and integrity concerns whilst absent a shred of evidence against any individual member(s)....?

It's a somewhat unique USP to insult your potential customer base to say the least and this one has similarities to his own 'Ratner Moment'..!

Personally, I find it quite an insult to the collective PF membership who having met many in person and even more through correspondence on his site, I now consider many of them (respectively) both personal and hobby friends and they are without exception, amongst the most decent, trustworthy and genuinely generous people (time and product) I have ever encountered.

The "thieves and pirates" who Mr Shiu frequently launches into diatribes about are known and established to be (much) closer to home than he may care to acknowledge and I respectfully suggest, those responsible are not likely to be found amongst the extended worldwide PF fraternity.

It looks like Mr Shiu does not wish to reply to Martin's open invitation to comment and clarify his position on this matter but in the interim, he still actively touts his products for sale on PF. If he has everyone he wants to sell his products to known personally to him, then what benefit is served by doing so as clearly attracting new customers or maximising his sales is not the intention?

Given he sells only to his anonymous 'honest and trusted' customers and everyone else here on PF is excluded by an openly declared on this very site automatic presumption (and whilst absent a shred of declared evidence by him in support of the same) that the rest of us on PF all fail to met that criteria, then I have to question what purpose is served by still allowing him to openly advertise on this site (unless), quite rightly, he is paying the site owners for the commercial advertising privilege of doing so...?

Mr Shiu / Mods - any comment?

Gary

He can do whatever he wants!!!! He has caused no problems here. Let's just move on.

Are you one of the "Trusted 50" Todd by chance or does it not bother you being default categorized as being untrustworthy and one of the possible 'thieves and pirates' he is always ranting on about? If he wants to know who they are, then he should start looking at China / HK nearer to home and ban sales there rather than here amongst the wider PF membership.

There.... I just said it and just identified who everyone knows are (really) the people he describes and who are to blame for his declared recast issues. I personally just find it a bit galling that having openly declared that no-one on on this site can be trusted to buy his stuff unless you are a long-standing customer, that he still uses it as a platform to advertise. Also, why can he not publicly speak for himself on this topic rather than others feel obliged to do it for him?

Perhaps he should just email his 'Band of Brothers' direct for sales as Martin suggested and be done with it as at least that way, he can at least narrow down the number of suspects for who is causing or aiding others in his re-pop issues !
