Greetings! I've been a loyal reader here for more than a year. I usually paint 25-28mm figures and just recently tried to paint larger figures and busts.

Here's my first bust, The Aviator by JMD Miniatures. It's a great bust and the face has so much character. At first, I was nervous because I've never painted anything this scale, but it turned out the layering technique I use for painting 28mm figures applies well on this 1:10 scale as well and it didn't take as much time as I thought it would be. I certainly had fun painting this one, especially painting the leather that looks worn out.

As I'm new to painting historical miniatures, I'm looking forward to hearing your feedback and guidance as I'm not familiar with uniforms, designs and colors used in the past.

I hope you enjoy it :)

Well painted.
seems pretty good overall, good skin tones, 5'o'clock shadow, finish on hat and goggles is excellent.

The palette overall is earthy, which makes the eyes stand out.

Remembering the rule that goes a bit like "Its my display cabinet, and I'll paint my figures how I want", the following is meant as opinion.

The necklace pendant (the ring shape) could also have been done in either a complementary colour, or a scheme of colour to help 'strengthen' the colour of the eyes. Again, just my opinion, and if 500 people paint this bust, there are probably 1000+ ways it could have been painted.

So long as you are happy with the result.

I agree, it does have a nice character to it, kind of a steam-punk theme/ era, and a welcome change from gnarly warriors or svelte babes:);)

Your grounding in small figures has translated up well.

Thanks for sharing, must browse your website later

Cheers

Fabulous work.
The eyes are standing out, but in my opinon to much. The eyes attracked me away from the rest of the figure. Maybe tune them down will do the work.

Thank you for the kind words and feedback. The camera intensified the color of the eyes while in person, it was softer :) Nonetheless, point taken and I will use softer colors for eyes on the next sculpt :)

Everything looks really nice Liliana. :) The leather looks great and the goggles and five o'clock shadow still out to me as well as very well done.

The eyes are cool. I've seen people with allllmost just as striking blue and it fits with this character. If this was a historical bust, you'd only be limited by what color eyes the person had (if the information is available and it's a named person) or by what is possible.

Please do post some of your minis. Some of us do paint them from time to time as well. :)

I think this piece turned out fantastically! Your shading on the hat is great, the subtle palette is really nice, the work on the glass of the goggles is spot-on! Your flesh tones are very nice and I think the eyes are just right! With a bust, the first thing we tend to look at is the eyes, so I've always considered them one of the most important aspects of bust painting. To say that these caught everyone's eye (no pun intended), is exactly what you want! Well done, and do share some more work.

Oh, and welcome aboard! Great to see new work posted up!
