Yeah, I know, I know, I have sooo many unfinished minis on my table, that I seriously should seek professional help here... But I just couldn't resist this little fella.

Beautiful bust from JMD Miniatures.
For now only the hauberk is finished, but I hope today I can do some more work on the clothing.

Well basically I used just few shades of metalic paint and lots and lots of washes:D I guess I just treated the whole thing like a fabric, just used different colours.

Colours I used:
Boltgun metal (GW)
Chainmail (GW)
Chrome (Vallejo air)
Badab Black (GW Wash)
Agrax earthshade (GW Wash) - dark, cool brown
Seraphim sepia (GW Wash) - every sepia will do
Ogryn flesh (GW Wash) - slightly redish
Asurmen blue (GW Wash) - just blue

It looks great, better than mine! I am just finishing the same bust. Only the beard and the leather parts remain. I used printer's ink with some ivory black, oil. Then I used some inks like yours but just a little. I really like what you did. If you have posted it a few weeks back you would have made me use your recipe. ;-p
I will follow yours closely. It' s a great little bust, full of character. Great start!

I'm really happy guys that you like what I've done so far.
To be fair, half of the effect here is due to excelent sculpture. I have no idea how it was done, but the details on hauberk are simply stunning. You can see every single ring that was used to make it;]
Mindblowing.

Hello Marta, Your painting of the hauberk is an awesome sight to behold. I agree with Ben, it looks real. Thanks for sharing your colors you used to achieve it. I'll be watching this one closely. Exceptional start to this highly detailed piece. Best of luck with it. Regards, SG:woot::happy:

Hi eM,the progress you've made so far is terrific,it really does look like the real thing, great painting, looking forward to see how you handle the flesh :)

Yeah... Flesh might be tricky... Not my favourite part in the mini. But I'll do my best.

BTW for now I'm thinking black beard, but maybe I'm wrong. What do you think? What would make a bigger impact here? Maybe sun 'bleached blond'? I'm not fan of ginger, ginger-ish though. At least not here.

I'm gonna check this guy later. But next to the black beard I'm considering this Nordic/german archetype... you know, extra blond.

eM, I'd like to see an aged greyish type beard which I think would really suit him,but I'm sure whatever colour you choose it will be a great job.

I agree with Geoff,he really does look like the knight in Indiana jones

Hello Marta, I like both of your color choices for the beard. The black color would look good with the chain mail, and the light blond color would look good with the leather details. However, to me, his face does look elderly though, so using these two colors could be tricky, unless you plan to age them with your color mix. Whatever you decide, with your unique style of painting, I'm sure it will be a very stunning piece. I also agree with Geoff, and Brian, he does resemble the grail guardian knight. Regards, SG:happy:

Actually I decided to go for grayish beard. Not fully gray, but more like black with gray stands. To match the age and scars I'm planing to picture on the face.
Now I just need to find the right photo in internet:D

I'm thinking something like that, but with longer black strands.
Or maybe the oposite, blackish beard with white strands in the middle of both sides.

Hello eM, Here is a picture from a painting, showing the light blond beard with white streaks, scared aged face, from the Nordic/German archetype that you mentioned.

Just an option, If you change your mind. Regards, SG:happy:

To be fair I can plan all I want, but ulitmately with new things it's always more like a guess how it's gonna look like;]
And I never tried the grayish hair before, so I might end up repainting it few times and finally settle for a redish brown knowing my luck;p
So I guess we all gonna find out soon how he's gonna look like.
BTW a friend from other forum asked me if I'm gonna do any scars on his face, and if yes, if I'm gonna use some sort of putty or just a paint.
I wasn't really gonna do that, to keep the sculpt as oryginal, but then I realised there is not much enough in the sculpt imperfection to support old wound,. So I thought I could do a thin lines using liquid gs to make him look more like an old and battered warrior. It will most probably cross his left eye and/or cheek, as the sculpt there is weaker when it comest to details.
Mabye if I'm lucky and not too tired after today, I'll do that in the evening.
