Great job on the scarring Marta. I think that the nose can dominate this bust and additional work individualises and enhances the end result.
A while back my good mate Brian Snaddon performed some 'plastic' surgery on his to, IMO great effect.

Your mail is superbly done and the grey / black hair should be very dramatic.
Cheers

Medieval Scarface...! Al Pacino would have been proud! (although probably you should not try two lines of cut on the same level...what do you say if you keep the one on the nose and draw a vertical one on the eye?)

Love what you've done with the mail Marta, very effective. I think you should go for a greying dark beard

I like the cuts on the aventail and I agree with Arxo that having the scars on the face almost perpendicular to each other may look more effective.

Thx guys.
You're most probably right about the positioning of the scars. But to do a vertical one, I'd have to mess with his eyebrow, and I'm a bit scared to do it.
I'll have to look into that a bit further.
I'm also considering redoing his nose as suggested (the massive roman nose was bugging me a bit from the very beginning).

Aw! No, don't touch his Cyrano!:dead:

Oh yes, Cyrano it is... The whole guy attached to this poor bust face:p
Like I said I need to think it through this evening. Hopefully I won't have to buy new one tomorrow:p

Dunno how I missed this but the mail is wonderful. Re the scars I would widen them just a tad. No fine suturing back then so they'd spread more when healing.

18024-blige_full-480w.jpglocke_528_poster.jpgHello eM, How about something like this, if its not to late. Your bust is turning into a very interesting story. Regards, SG:happy:

I guess I'll stick to the scars I have so far (plus one extra that I overlooked while preparing the bust for painting;p)
Here you can see what I managed to paint yesterday. Not too impressive, not even decent, but I do struggle with fleshtones (and the side with scars is less painted than the rest;p).
Any suggestions?

The wall eye is a stroke of genius looking good so far Marta I like what you've done with it

Great bust! Any updates? I've been following this because I'm working on the same piece. Mine had a large sinkmark in the left inner eye and upper side of the nose. Pretty much a crater. I was able to fix the nose with putty, but trying to re-sculpt the eye was less than satisfactory. The eyes didn't match after a few attempts, so I decided to sculpt a worn leather eye patch. I'm also leaving the nose as is and going with a gray beard. Grizzled veteran and all that...

Looking forward to seeing the completed bust!

Cheers,

Glen

I'm struggling with this bust's skin a lot at the moment.
I'm trying to achieve high level and right colour for now. Some colour variations will be added later when I'm happy with the contrast.
The scars aren't ready yet, but I quite like the effect in his left eye corner.

Hi Marta
I think the skin tone is correct, but maybe carefully placed highlights may be the trick?, lips are to my eyes a bit too red? have you finished the eyes yet
maybe a bit more work on them? it's just little areas, but Marta what you have painted so far is very nice indeed! his beard need work but i guess its to be painted? look forward to seeing this at Euro! but the leather work, wow!! Gerry.

Marta, the painted chain mail is outstandingly realistic and the scars you made are perfectly in scale too. Congratulations!

If I can suggest - please this is just a suggestion - if you feel you have the skills to do it - just like you add the scars - detail the beard of the figure

I'm going to be just as frank as I can: I think this bust magnificent: But, and for me this is a very serious "but", the beard in the original sculpt, looks a bit like soft melted putty: let's say this way "a speedy job". Many finished busts I've seen of this miniature are a bit downgraded not because of the painter skills, but because the softness of the beard.

Regarding the ethnicity, while this character resembles an old knight and grey is a conventional choice, I would just like to suggest the exoticity of a red. I made a red bearded fellow some time ago:

I like the way reds contrast with chain mail, I guess :hilarious:

Please Marta, suggestions are suggestions - you alone are the owner of your will - whatever your choice will be - it will become an outstanding figure just like you are demonstrating! Go ahead!

This is coming along beautifully Marta,I like what you done with the eyes and beard, look forward to seeing your next update :)

This is really great! The mail looks like real metal, while the skin tones and scarring are well-suited to an older veteran. I also think the lips are a bit too red. I've nearly finished my version and I concur with Blue Thunder that the beard could have better sculpted. In this scale it lacks some finesse. I tried to do it with paint, but I don't think I pulled it off.

Again, well done, and I'm looking forward to seeing the finished piece!

Cheers,

Glen
