Good evening!

Somewhat of a cross-post over from CoolMiniOrNot, since there was only one reply to my thread on there and there are multiple threads on here discussing Jo Sonja paints. I would like to make a limited palette similar to PF user Eludia's, in this thread of theirs: https://www.planetfigure.com/threads/jo-sonja-limited-palette.81706/, however I cannot find three of the paints they used (cadmium yellow light, cadmium scarlet, and phthalo blue) on the online retailer's website I will be ordering from.

I am wondering if someone who is familiar with Jo Sonja's current lineup of paints could please have a look at this online retailer's listings and advise me on substitutes for those three paints; or, if the names of those paints have been rebranded since Eludia made their thread in 2016, could they please share the new names with me. Based upon my preliminary online searches, cadmium yellow light may have been rebranded as simply yellow light? Or, if those paints have not been rebranded, and there are no substitutes available in Jo Sonja's lineup (on that website), might I be able to substitute another brand's acrylic gouache and use it with Jo Sonja's magic mix, retarder, etc.?

Here's the online retailer's listings for Jo Sonja paints: https://deltaart.ca/category/JosACR/jo-sonjas-acrylic

Thank you in advance for any and all assistance offered!

Edit: If you can think of any additional complementary secondary/tertiary colours that would benefit someone with very little experience mixing paints, I would really appreciate it. Thank you!

Hi there

Thank you for the warm welcome, friend. I will do just that. And, sorry, I forgot to mention in my OP that I did contact Jo Sonja prior to posting here and on CoolMiniOrNot, but they haven't replied in a month so I just gave up.

I had a look at several companies sites that carry JS can't see the 3 you mentioned , possibly someone might carry old stock if they have been rebranded or renamed ?

Look forward to seeing your artwork

Happy benchtime

Yes, I am wondering if those colours were discontinued by Jo Sonja, or if they were rebranded (such as cadmium yellow light becoming yellow light), and the only way to ascertain that is by interacting with people who are currently working with them. Jo Sonja did not return my email, neither did Rustoleum or Krylon. Might have to do with what my question was concerning (your/our hobby, miniature painting), I suppose? Depending on when I place my order, when it arrives, etc., I would love to share my work with you. Cheers!

Why not do a google and contact companies that carry the range ...Jacksons in UK

Certainly would have thought the colours of use

Yiu might also send a message to Eludia he might be able to help

Good hunting and benchtime

Sorry, I meant to specify in my OP that I'm Canadian and the online retailer I would like to purchase from is located in Canada (thus avoiding shipping complications, duties & import fees, etc.). If I purchase from that ebay URL, I will have to pay approximately $90 for 3 tubes of paint, versus the $4 per tube with the Canadian retailer. I am not opposed to paying that much in the future, but given that I am just starting out, I think I will either have to find a substitute (within the same brand, if that's possible) or go with another brand of paints (I have heard good things about Golden's line of fluid acrylics) for the time being. Thank you for providing me with that resource for future use, however!

The thing to keep in mind with art type acrylics is most of them do not give you a mat finish. I have some of the Golden fluid and they are excellent in that they are just binder and loads of pure pigment. None of the fillers that many others add. Jo Sonja have a matting medium added so will give you a mat finish if that is what you are looking for. That is why some miniature painters like them.
