I'm a little frustrated about what I was told, that using JS paints on 54mm figures the paints were to grainy for that scale. I thought JS paints were a really good brand of acrylic paints for painting figures, why are they possessively better in large scale and not in 54mm which is what I normally work in? Are they great to paint figures in 54mm and larger or not?

They work on any scale Chris. Only get grainy if you don't keep them wet.
I use this property of theirs to add textures such as fur & wool too.

Give em a go!

Trust this helps

Ask 10 people about a brand of paint and you'll get 10 answers. Ask 100 painters which paint is best and you're like to get 200 opinions.;)

Eventually you'll have to dip your brushes in and figure out what works best for YOU.

Have at it and then tell us what you think.

Oh you guys I've made my choice and its going to be the JS brand from now on! It just struck me in an odd way that someone would say that without an explanation, but thanks to mike now I do understand and I will be going to jump in head first into this world!
