This is a sculpt I just completed. It is King David Kalakaua. I am working on his wife Queen Kapiolani at this moment and painting another casting of him to paint blue. So far I have the likeness of Kapiolani sculpted and I am ready to move on to her body.

Very very nice, Richard! Definitely has his likeness, although every picture I've seen of the king, he's a bit chubbier than your sculpture. Still top notch and a very interesting subject!
"Hawaii for the Hawaiians"

Never been to Hawaii but always wanted to go. Keep up the great work! (y)

Very nice work Richard.
With what paint do you paint......
It seems that you didn't prime the figure, and the paint didn't cover the parts of the figure very well.

Thanks Hiroshi. This is from an earlier image of him when he first took the throne and was still a little less chubbier.
Marc,
I use a combination of model masters acrylics, flo quil and Artists pigments. I do not prime because I find that this scale 1:13.7142 is too small for a primer coat. The details tend to get lost when I prime. So, I start an underlay color first and paint on top of that in consecutive overlays.
Your eyes are better than mine, I could not find any parts that were unpainted. Could you help me out and identify them so I can go back over that area with color?

I'm still trying to find the parts I missed with paint. I need a better pair of magnifiers :(

As I wrote earlier: it seems not good covered with paint. If you look carefully to the picture it is not equaal.
You say your scale is 1 : 13,.... The most of us paint in 54 mm that is i believe 1:32 what is bigger then 1:13.
We all prime..... if you prime to thick you gonna loos detail. I prime only 2 very light coats and all the details can be seen.

Is it uneven all over? If so that is how I painted not because there is resin showing through. I will give the next paint job a shot using the primer because it is much easier to paint over primer than it is on to the polyUrethane resin piece. Thanks for the tip.

It looks well painted equal to me, Marc, perhaps it's because the highlights are feathered in blending that it looks a bit off?
