This is really turning out great. Your colours are very rich and the piece is really shaping up to be a"how it should be done" piece. Looking forward to seeing the final item.

the end of the story with some more pictures...

The Mameluks of the" Garde" were a light horse unit which joined the french army in 1804 after Napoleon's returm from Egypt, dismantled in 1815.
They became part of the " régiment des chasseurs à cheval de la Garde impériale"

all the metal is painted with oils only, no metal paint or inks
overall more than 100 hours of painting... and I can still spot some imperfections ...:facepalm:

thanks to all of you who followed the painting of this fig.
I would greatly recommend this exercice to those of whom whish to improve their painting abilities.

This is very good Marco, and a good call on not using metallic paint for the gold and silvers as they would have killed it stone dead .
It's a flat just like a canvas "no metal paints allowed "

@Ron
although it may look difficult at first painting "metal non metallic" is not that hard: you just need to set up about 6 shades of oil mixtures ranging from burnt amber to naples yellow.
looking at some actual historical paintings also helps a lot , as light direction plays a great part in achieving the result.

Marco, a wonderful little flat there. Very like the old quadri Concept ones.

An excellent paint job. You make me want to start painting flats again...... the highest compliment I can pay you...

Well done

Great bit of painting you've done here.
Between this piece and Roger's work, I'm really getting the itch to try one of these flats... my wife will not be pleased when I start ordering even more figs :rolleyes:
