Hello,
this is not about a kit, but about something related to kits, the current issue (#55) of the Kitbuilder Magazine.

Hope to be in the right section to make the post, if not just let me know and feel free to move it.

I was aware of that magazine, but I never read it and now I got a copy I must say I am stunned. Here you will find some shots of the current issue I have arranged with the Photoshop.

They are used to focus every issue on a different topic (the current one is about female figure painting), but besides the main argument, you will find a lot of interesting stuff, like the section dedicated to the garage kits reviews or the articles about modelling, sculpting, painting and so on.

It is a quarterly, full colour publication, edited in the USA. The current issue is 97 pages with a total of 34 articles. It is worth reading, even if you are not used to build and paint garage kits.

Just to mention something, do not miss the beautiful step by step about the painting of the Princess Aura, the article about Theronflux kit and the stunning Ray Vandamme's Lara sculpt, beautifully rendered in two different versions, the one from Dan Jorgensen and the other by Tony Spangler. Last but not least, an interesting article by Buc Wheat about the various Lara kit available out there.

The magazine is available directly from the Editor's web site or from the distributors.

For what I know, here in Europe it is available through Transilvania Models (Spain) and Resin Maniacs (Germany).

Thanks for the review Luca. I wish members would do reviews on more magazines. Very appropriate for the forum.

Luca - Thanks for sharing this. I have never knew what that mgazine was like. It resembles AFM (Amazing Figure Modeler). Even though I dont paint these bigger garage kits that often, the magazine has a lot of different ideas and techniques for one to try. Thats how I learned about using chalks on skin, inks, transparent paints (especially those paints that the taxidermists use) and others.
I will have to order this

thanks

Luca, Thanks for the review. The way the magazine is laid out reminds me a lot of AFM. I cannot remember the last time I bought a magazine. The net has pretty much replaced them for me as there are some really great sbs's out there.~Gary

Thank you for looking guys.

For what I know the magazine was founded by Gordy Dutt a few years before AFM existed. It is now under a new ownership (Dan Jorgensen, since issue 45 about 4 years ago).

Brad, there are really different techniques shared through the magazine. In the same issue there is another article by Dan Cope about painting the Natasha female figure from Pegaso where he explains how to use women's make-up over the piece.

I used to buy this magazine years ago. Mainly geared to large scale garage kits, but obviously would have some applications to smaller figures in techniques. I understand there is a new editor/owner since I looked at it so might be better overall and looks to have mostly color pages while in the past there were some B&W. It is not available anywhere near where I live or I might pick up an issue or two. Thanks for posting the review,

Luca - thanks agan. I've always wondered about trying women makeup on certain areas. Seems like it would blend sooo nice.
