Dear Planeteers,
my latest project is my first bust from Himini, and I actually think I discovered a new gold standard here. The quality is simply outstanding. The bust itself is big, I mean really big. And heavy, very heavy. I wouldn't say that painting this bust can be considered as a physical exercise, but holding this chunk of resin over a longer period of time was a challenge.
The bust come with a helmet that looks, although authentic, rather silly to me. I didn't use a cape neither. The cape would have provided even more visual interest but I think that no warrior would choose wearing a cape in combat. It just did not feel right to me.
Finally the huge shield. I wanted it to look realistic. I don't think any knight would carry a shield that has been turned into a piece of art. I wanted a shield that looked as somebody with normal artistic skills had painted it.
I really hope you like it. Happy painting!

Sven, excellent result as a matter of interest what scale would you say he was, we are used to 1/10 or perhaps busts can end up more like 1/9 but we have seen some bigger stuff released lately and I hope we don't keep going up and up and up.

What did you use for the armour? I really like that shiny but not too shiny look. Top painting.

Hi Hobbes,
I used the Scalecolor metal colors in very thin coats. I also added brown and black and even blue to the darker metal parts to reduce their shine. Glad you like the result.

Hi Terry,
this is a big bust, bigger than 1:10. I think it's a solid 1:9 scale. It is worth its price, though.

That's a lovely piece of work Sven.

I've always thought that about shields myself. You see some fantastic shield designs from the top painters in the hobby that look like miniature versions of something straight out of the Sistine Chapel. Truly breathtaking detail work that it's impossible not to be mesmerised by and admire.

But did they look like that in reality? I'm not so sure, given that they'd soon have the edge knocked off them in combat. So what would be the point? I think simple designs are probably much more true to real life.

Lovely figure all round.
Excellently painted armour.
I particularly like the realistic detailing of the shield.

Cheers,
Andrew
