Hi again

Yeah I know I have not been posting anything for ages but life has just got in the way. I have paints coming for Christmas so I have 3 figures I am determine to finish before March.

However as a side note I am after reference material or search keyword to use to find out information about Knights and their colours.

I know about the various Military Orders from the Crusades, but there must have been other knights around with their own colours and markings and it is this information I am after finding at the moment.

Thanks in advance

Knikki, there are several possibilities dependent on time period. Liveries of secular knights and their households were pretty colorful. Type in the search terms "surcoat" "herladic livery" or even "heraldry at .....(a particular battle/period/household)" and you'll find lots of examples. Other sources are illustrations from the various period manuscripts. Books like the Manessa Codex, Macejowski Bible, Bedford Hours. Luttrell Psalter, Chronicles of Mathw Paris.

Hi Knikki. Try typing Medieval Rolls of Arms into google. I did this when suffering from painters mental block when I was doing Bonapartes Knight and found them a great help......dom

Thanks you for the reference points.

I must confess i had not thought about time periods I suppose there must have been a differnecve btewwen the knights of the crusade compaired with the knights that were on the later tournament circuits in the later part of the middle ages.

Vast differences Knikki it's like comparing infantry of the Napoleonic period with a soldier of today. if you have a specific figure/s in mind put them up and I'm sure there will be something we can find
