So now I have to get out of Brad Pitt ...

... still make Konstantin Simonow ...:

Here we have different photos of him ...

And here the direct comparison with the resin head ...:

The best photo of Simonow from that time is this one ...:

And after that I will work!

The list of things I'll change:

1. The hairline must be fuller - and especially at the temples more pronounced, Simonov wore his hair there longer than "Brad".

2. The forehead does not have such deep wrinkles, it needs to be smoothed.

3. Konstantin Simonow had not so clearly pronounced "pithy" bulges above the nose bone at the base of the forehead, they have to go!

4. The course of the eyebrows is different.

5. Laughing lines must be made in the outer corners of the eyes and I will also change the bags under the eyes.

6. The boat must become fleshier and have a different shape at the tip of the nose.

7. The lips need to become narrower.

8. The chin will need to be softer and rounder.

9. The cheeks must be fuller and also rounder.

Lots of construction sites for such a small head! But it should be fun ...

Tomorrow we go!

And I'll start with the eye area and the nose.

This photo shows Konstantin Simonow on the battlefield near Kursk in the summer of 1943 - already in the new uniform ...:

Cheers

The first small steps on the way to a new face ...:

First of all, the head is glued to a toothpick with "UHU all-purpose glue", so I can get the toothpick off again later ...:

Then I redo the forehead, eyebrows and hairline ...:

I don't have to do anything new up higher, because I decided to put the "Furashka" peaked cap on our friend ...

... just like here...:

Incidentally, the photo was taken in August 1941, when Simonov had himself taken to the port city of Odessa on the Black Sea, which was attacked by German and Romanian troops, to write a report about the city's defense, which was subsequently published not only in "Pravda" and the army newspaper "Krasnaya Zvezda" (Red Star ") appeared but was reprinted by many other media.

This photo was also taken during Simonov's stay in Odessa, showing him in conversation with two prisoner-of-war Romanian soldiers ...:

The battle for Odessa lasted from August 5 to October 16, 1941 and ended with the occupation of the city by the Romanians.

The Axis powers under the command of Generals Alexandru Ioanițiu ...

... and Erich von Manstein...

... lost 92,545 soldiers (17,729 dead, 63,345 wounded, 11,471 missing) and 20 aircraft during the fighting, the losses of the Red Army under its commander Georgij Sofronow ...

... amounted to 41,268 soldiers (16,578 dead, 24,690 wounded) and 151 aircraft.

Large parts of Odessa's population and the defenders were evacuated with the help of the Black Sea Fleet.

Odessa came under Romanian occupation until it was liberated on April 10, 1944 ...:

The Odessa massacre took place here from October 22 to 24, 1941, in which between 25,000 and 35,000 Jews were murdered in retaliation for a bomb explosion at the Romanian headquarters.

The resistance in the occupied city continued even during the occupation: in the catacombs of Odessa they fought until the liberation ...

... Soviet partisans against the occupiers.

As for the new face of my figure: Everything is still pretty unspectacular, but tomorrow it will be a little more exciting - the nose and mouth are on the program ...

Cheers

Hi Martin

You certainly like a challenge , hard to say how it's going to go , looking a bit Frankenstein at the moment ...but if anyone can do it ...you can

Look forward to more updates and seeing the new face appear

Next up is the mouth and nose!

I sanded away the too full lips of "Brad Pitt" - and then got on my hero's nose.

Konstantin Simonow had quite a "tooth" on his face, in the past it would have been called a "Roman nose" - for whatever reason.

It's not that easy to model the thing, because with the line of the bridge of the nose you have to be very careful not to overdo it and conjure up a hooked nose in his face!

This is how it turned out ...:

Actually, I wanted to make the mouth new too, but the new nose protrudes further than the old one - and the risk was simply too great that I would "rattle" the tip of my nose when modeling the lips and destroy all the glory again.

So it’s the mouth’s turn tomorrow.

Cheers

Nice work so far Martin(y). He might have had a big nose but he attracted a beautiful wife (Valentina Serova) - albeit for a comparatively short marriage. His famous poem "Wait for me" was written for her.
I just got his "Life end Death" trilogy on the wife's Kindle - I'd rather have had a hard copy but they are rather expensive. At least I can read it now.

Just today I got the book "Waffengefährten" (= "Brothers in Arms") by Simonow.

It is the opening part of the war trilogy and describes the fighting at Chalchin Gol.

All protagonists of the war trilogy (Artemjew, Sinzow etc.) also appear in "Brothers in Arms" ...

I have studied the Soviet/Japanese conflicts along the Manchurian border and this opening part will be very interesting to read Simonov's viewpoint.

Nap - thanks for the photo of Mr and Mrs Simonov(y)

The mouth of our hero looks clearly different from that of "Brad Pitt" ...:

Simonow's mouth looks narrower overall - and the lips are thinner!

But above all: On many photos Simonow shows a very fine smile that seems embarrassed and ironic at the same time ...:

My figure should definitely have this smile too - so I redesigned it's mouth ...:

I also carefully reworked the tip of the nose - the transition to the nostrils.

The lighting also shows that the area above the left eyebrow (in the photo) has to be reworked - something is wrong ...:

My work programm for tomorrow...

Cheers

Hi Martin

Well I must say he's not looking like Brad now ...very patient resculpting and working

I think I would take off the eyebrows till the forehead shaping in correct and then concentrate on them

Another impressive update

Happy sculpting

Forehead reworked, cheek area "padded", rranial sac made, smile lines in the corner of the eye modeled, nasolabial fold redefined (deeper and steeper than in "Brad Pitt"!), Muscle play on the cheek and in the corner of the mouth indicated (important for the following painting!) Earlobe made ...:
