Hi everyone

We all know of the company RP Models , started up only a few years ago by Hugo Pereira and has gone from strength to strength , not only with the releases but also in reputation for customer service and listening to those involved in the hobby

The piece I will look at and share with you will be a bust but in a new scale for RP ( this will be the chosen scale for future busts I believe ....saving valuable space in the display cabinet )

Details of the release

Title: Kuthulun ( From Generals and Commanders series )

Reference: HRP-B-12-0005

Scale: 1/12th

Material: Gray Resin

No of parts: 21 in addition to a insert with historical details

Sculptor: 3D

Casting YS Castings ( Yiannis )

Box Art: N/A

One thing to note the box says 1/10th ..it is definately 1/12th

This is the picture from RP

Rather impressive details ..what we have come to expect from RP , and its an action piece as well

There is a insert with historical details included so I am not going to say too much ...everything you need to know about this warrior is there and of course there is the internet to look around as well.

Basically...you wouldn't argue with her!!! She was the daughter of one of Ghengis Khan ...you might have heard of this fellow...lol..... much has been written about her life and there has been a operatic version by Puccini

I would like to say that RP is very much a low manpower operation ...helped by friends and family and a heck of a lot of time is used from concept to release , all packing, shipping is done in house ...inbetween a full time job !!!!

So all credit to all those that help

Packed in a strong box with a distinctive purple colour with a image of the piece

RP Kuthulun 001.jpg

Special Thanks to members of Planet Figure and Figurementors which is a nice touch

RP Kuthulun 002.jpg

Parts consist of Torso , head , 2 arms, 1 hand , 2 quivers, bow (with hand), sword, dagger, cloak 4 straps , 4 arrows and last but not least 2 butterfly's ( 1 is a spare !!)

RP Kuthulun 003.jpg

Prep

Very little to do , slight flashing under chin and on pieces on formers , minimal casting posts to remove from under torso ,the smaller quiver, arms and head , cloak , weapons , straps etc to fit in position

A tiny bit of filler where arms meet torso

I suggest you plan you build to get full enjoyment out of the resin :

  • How are you going to display
  • Sequence of fitting of parts
Continued in next post where we will be picture crazy !!!

In this part we will look at the torso and the head

Torso

Wearing full armour , the detailing is very sharply done and the casting is the same so well done Yiannis , the arms are raised to a 10 to a4 position in full bow firing position once the arms have been added

As we have seen in previous releases ...texture detailing is very important ...as much accuracy that is possible both in clothing and the human form .

On the front there are location cutouts for the cloak plus around the body other cutouts for the quivers and straps etc

The 3D sculpting is as it should be a very high level , this is particularly noticeable looking at the belt buckles and fittings , the waist one has a really nice butterfly fitment

Working round the belt at the rear we have a cutout for the knife fitting above the oval and again engraved with details

Around the neck on a well done cord is a medallion , engraved with details

Lets have the pictures ...worth a 1000 words

RP Kuthulun 013.jpgRP Kuthulun 012.jpg

Head

This is a very action packed face ...mouth wide open revealing teeth and tongue , good facial details particularly the eyes , on the review piece the right eyebrow was a little more pronounced but simple sanding will sort that out ...or you could build up the left !!

The icing on the cake is the hair pulled back into a very long and thickly plaited length , the detail work on the hair strands is more than very good , in the hair itself we have 3 ornaments ready for the crowning glory ..one of the butterfly sculpts to be fitted...in addition to thsi decoration on the ears she has some very delicate hanging earrings ....painting will bring all these details out with ease.

The pics...

Lets have a little look at the butterflies ......2 have been thoughtfully provided ...1 for the model and one for the carpet monster ......as you can see very delicate and very nicely done ..just be careful taking them off the former

Now to the remainder of the parts

Starting with the Arms ...the left is outstretched wearing a lower arm guard , the clothing is packed with details designs , as is the arm guard itself , the retaining straps are pulling into the clothing nicely with the buckle work there , the hand will need to be fitted as this is included on the bow

The right has the same details showing and is pulled backward in a archery position

RP Kuthulun 023.jpgRP Kuthulun 024.jpg

Right hand ...this is cast in full extended mode , long fingers , slight flashing but simple to remove , the fingers have a ring on them , fit is simple to the cutout in the arm ....

RP Kuthulun 026.jpgRP Kuthulun 027.jpgRP Kuthulun 025.jpg

Left Hand/Bow

This is cast direct to the recurve bow she is using , slight casting line to deal with ...make sure you fit it the right way up ...thumb up !!! , the bow itself is as seen in pictures and very decorated with wrappings ...you will need to string the bow ..so check those references

RP Kuthulun 033.jpgRP Kuthulun 034.jpg

Quivers

2 Versions are included ...one that the bow would fit into and the other the arrows , again plenty of delicate decoration on the upper surfaces ...so plenty to paint , fit is into cut outs which match accurately the lugs cast on these

RP Kuthulun 029.jpgRP Kuthulun 030.jpg RP Kuthulun 031.jpgRP Kuthulun 032.jpg

Sword/knife

The first being the longer of the two , casting is great , with decoration at the heel of the scabbard in addition to the middle and top , the knife is very small a simple tube but yes you've guessed it decorated , fitting at the centre rear of the torso
RP Kuthulun 038.jpgRP Kuthulun 039.jpg
RP Kuthulun 037.jpg

Straps/Arrows

As you might guess these are very delicate indeed so take your time removing them from the formers , the arrows x 4 are obviously to fit into the quiver , the straps fit onto the torso . these have the stitching on them in place they look good , you could of course replace with your own from sculpting putty if you should break one...hopefully not!!

RP Kuthulun 036.jpgRP Kuthulun 040.jpg

Cloak

This feature has been in a couple of RP releases ..why? ....because it adds movemnet and action to the piece and this is no different

You will need to run a sanding stick on the under edges and remove 3 small casting plugs...but thi samall amount of work will be ll worth it when you look over ....designs are covering the cloth from top to bottoms and side to side

RP Kuthulun 041.jpgRP Kuthulun 042.jpg

Finally lets have some more pictures from RP which will help in building the model

Final Thoughts

Another very good release which has been received well , and don't forget there is also other scales available in full figure version . The dedication that Hugo and the RP team exude to the community shines through in all his releases and this is no different

HIGHLY RECOMMENDED

Great review Nap of a very nice model. I have this at the 75mm scale and hope to do a review of that sometime.
Also nice that you point out how much of a labour of love the kits RP models produce are.

Spectacular fantasy. The historical component of the costume is simply absent, as always, which is already traditional for RP.

Not my area of interest, but an absolute beauty of a kit as always with RP. Can't wait to see one of these painted up.

Hello my GOOD FRIEND Kevin

Thank you so much for this fantastic work... I and my team will continue try to improve and be better... We will continue working hard...
