Hi everyone

Following on from my look at the 1/12th bust here:https://www.planetfigure.com/threads/kuthulun-bust-from-rp-models.201796/

I will take a look at one of the 2 scales available in full figures ( the other being 120mm reviewed here by PF member Gary 81 here: https://www.planetfigure.com/threads/kuthulun-produced-by-rp-models.210099/)

Details of the release

Title: Kuthulun ( From Generals and Commanders series )

Reference: HRP-B-75-0005

Scale: 75mm

Material: Gray Resin

No of parts: 35

Inserts: 2 one being a historical background the other a fitment instruction

Sculptor: 3D

Casting YS Castings ( Yiannis )

Box Art: N/A

As we all know RP use 3D sculptors and all are very skilled , so I will give a picture look at the figure and associated part but concentrate here on the horse and the leopard

To avoid repeating myself here I suggest you look at the links on my bust review and also Gary's 120mm one

Suffice to say 3D sculpting allows companies to choose any scale without any loss in details ...and this is evident here on the figure as in the other scales ..the details are exactly the same.

General Comments
  • Well packed in bags surrounded by a mass of bubble pack
  • In the good box as with all releases
  • Smaller parts are on formers
  • Minimal casting excess to remove
  • Casting work is very well done
Here's some pictures from RP to assist your build

Lets have a photo montage of the figure related items with comments on some pieces

The Torso

RP kuthulun 007.jpgRP kuthulun 008.jpgRP kuthulun 010.jpgRP kuthulun 011.jpgRP kuthulun 012.jpgRP kuthulun 014.jpg

Plenty of details , no flashing , underneath there are 3 cutouts , 1 for mounting on horse , the other 2 for the legs

Arms

Slight casting line on the arm inside

Head

RP face.jpgRP Face 1.jpg

RP kuthulun 022.jpgRP kuthulun 021.jpg

Still the great details on the face

Helmet

RP kuthulun 029.jpgRP kuthulun 030.jpgRP kuthulun 031.jpg

This hangs on the horse as seen in the RP pictures , nice design work on the sides the top of the helmet is fluted with the plume positioned in a natural position

Legs

RP kuthulun 015.jpgRP kuthulun 016.jpg

These are wearing knee high boots with the intricate details , the feet are slightly turned upwards as in references of items , underneath the foot there is the base of the stirrup ( I could find no upper pieces to complete stirrup but easily made using wire

The folds on the clothing are well done in keeping with the riding position

Fit is simple by using the post on the legs and cutouts on the torso underside

Butterfly/Hand

RP kuthulun 023.jpg

I was impressed that the butterfly was castable in this scale and yes there is the decoration

The hand is delicate and again the details are all there , rings on her fingers

Quivers/Shield/Bow case

RP kuthulun 037.jpg RP kuthulun 027.jpg

The same comments apply to these as you can see the patterning on all is very good , they all allow the painter to really go to town with the brush/Airbrush

Water containers/Mace/Bow

RP kuthulun 025.jpg

RP kuthulun 034.jpg RP kuthulun 028.jpg

The water containers are paired together both of the same style

The mace is based on originals from the period , swirled at the head with the handle being wraped for holding

The bow again continues in a detailed scaled down version , the hands on the bow itself

Cape

RP kuthulun 032.jpg

Adding more movement to the piece as in the bust , the patterning is all there , fit is easy to the torso

Sword/Knife/Various Straps

RP kuthulun 035.jpgRP kuthulun 036.jpg

All are on the formers and delicate so be careful when removing especially the straps , this lady is certainly well armed , the sword is shaped as you see , the knife a straight version

Lets look at the remaining pieces ...both with legs...4 of them each!!!

Horse

Consisting of 4 pieces , front, rear, head and the tail , in addition to these there is a set of reins and a array of feathers for the head
Front

RP kuthulun 038.jpg
RP kuthulun 039.jpg

Rear
RP kuthulun 042.jpg
RP kuthulun 043.jpg

As you can see both front and back pieces are packed with detailed lamellar armour , each plates is accurate and all show no miscasts , the armour continues up the complete neck

Under the armour is a cushioning blanket , padded and squared as you can see in the pictures

The Saddle is held in place by 2 single straps with defined stitching pulling tightly into the animal the saddle cloth is a mass of very fine detail work , on the left side there are 2 stoppers which are meant to fit into the water containers ..they do ...very nicely

At the rear we have a cutout for the tail fitment , this is a swirl of hair , fitting against the rear leg when in place

RP kuthulun 044.jpg RP kuthulun 048.jpg

Fitment of the 2 main piece is with a very well produced cutout and post ....no filler will be needed

The upturned hoof has the shape seen and with a horseshoe being in place

RP kuthulun 041.jpg

Head

This is also armoured at the sides and the details continue , the cutouts for the eyes are really good , the eye definition is full and well shaped

The nostrils are slightly flared with the ears raised and slightly back ...very good detail work and research from Hugo's team

RP kuthulun 047.jpg RP kuthulun 046.jpg

Feathers

RP kuthulun 059.jpgRP kuthulun 060.jpg

A group of 5 , all detailed both in shape and work on the flights , fitting is maybe a little fussy but in place they will look good

Reins

RP kuthulun 049.jpg

Cast on a former and shaped , be careful removing from this and the flashing

Some might choose to replace with another type like lead sheeting or even make aroped version from twisted putty

Leopard

Consisting og 4 pieces , front, rear, head and tail, fully armoured like the horse . this time with a mail coat , the same details apply with the animal in full running mode

Fitting together easily again with no filling needed

The tail is quite thick in form as seen in the animal when in place its raised high

The head has all the features of the leopard , dangerous looking teeth , mouth open with nice nostril work

For some the armored version might be a little too much but who is to say that the animal was not armoured like this for such a high ranking princess's favourite "pet"

My personal thought is it would have been good to have unarmored version as well providing a good contrast

RP kuthulun 050.jpgRP kuthulun 051.jpgRP kuthulun 052.jpgRP kuthulun 054.jpg RP kuthulun 053.jpg RP kuthulun 055.jpgRP kuthulun 056.jpgRP kuthulun 057.jpgRP kuthulun 058.jpg

Base

RP kuthulun 061.jpg

Fully textured with rocks and boulders strewn about , locating cutouts are on the base, in the review piece a tiny bit of sanding will be required

Of course you can also incorporate the base into a larger base

Final Thoughts

Again a good addition to the RP range , as with all releases a limited edition so grab one while you can , excellent research from team RP , given the scale Yiannis is to also be congratulated on the casting quality

great review and a great subject.

I know that some may like this but personally i'm not fond of the 3d sculpted drawings, it doesn't let any place to the painter :(
